Franklin High School has a long history of participation and success not only in TASC, but in in our home District of District IX, the Southern Association of Student Councils, and the National Association of Student Councils (NASC). Franklin has held a District IX Officer position every year since 2005, currently holding a two-year term as Treasurer. Since Franklin's establishment in 1993, we have been awarded the NASC National Gold Council of Excellence for the past three years running, and TASC has awarded us not only the TASC Sweepstakes Award every year since 1998, but Franklin has also received the TASC Outstanding Student Council Award every year since 1995. Our council regularly attends all TASC events availiable to them, including Summer and Advanced Workshops and the State Conference. Additionally, we attend SASC and NASC conferences when possible. Franklin plans to prove we have earned the opportunity to serve as State President by making a significant impact in our community and inspiring your school to make a difference in your community via our Heart 2 Heart program. We believe that this is the first step in preventing depression, suicide, and bullying regardless of age by instilling the proper sensibilities in youth and reaching out to people of any age. We want to bring this program to TASC via our campaign for President, and if we are elected, will bring further prosperity to TASC not only with the Heart 2 Heart program, but by taking our invaluable leadership qualities and applying them to improve the ability of TASC to make a meaningful impact in the world. Our adviser, Mrs. Lisa Thompson, is a recipient of the prestigious Eddie G. Bull award, an adviser of the year award given to one TASC adviser. In her eight years as an adviser, she has been recognized as District IX's Adviser of the Year two times. She has spent her entire professional career in jobs that require high organizational and leadership skills. She embodies what an inspirational adviser should be and will ensure that Franklin is a perfect addition to the TASC Leadership. Our Student Representative, Rion Thompson, is a natural and chosen leader not only among his school but in his community. Chosen by the school administration to be Franklin High School's representative for the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar, he also holds many leadership positions inside his own school - serving as the Student Council Secretary and the Future Business Leaders of America Historian speaking specifically of this school year. Rion has qualified for the UIL State Debate Tournament, and has been chosen to be an attorney for Franklin's Mock Trial team. He has held positions in Student Government every year he has attended Franklin, holding the positions of Freshman Class Council Parliamentarian, Student Council Parliamentarian and District IX Vice-President his Sophomore year, and as stated before, Student Council Secretary for the current school year. Despite not having an official role in Class Council, he has chosen to remain active in class activities. Notably, as the President for the Technology Student Association took his team to a national competition his Freshman year after winning the first place prize at state competition. He holds community leadership positions as an appointee to the El Paso Youth Council and is one of the twenty-five students throughout the city accepted into the prestigious Junior Leadership El Paso program. Through all of these positions he has learned how to successfully apply his leadership skills by encouraging improved character and self-esteem among his peers. These factors ensure that he is the best candidate to be TASC's lead student representative for the TASC Leadership. Franklin High School feels that despite all of the qualifications listed here, it is more important for other TASC members to come and see for themselves what Franklin is all about. Feel free to email us at the email listed on this page, call Mrs. Thompson at the number provided, or talk to any of our student representatives at TASC events throughout the year. Remember: People don't remember what you said, but they remember how you made them feel.
