Historic Missions Preservation | Foundation for the Catholic Diocese of El Paso

Unlike similar Spanish colonial era missions in the United States, the three missions of the El Paso Mission Valley — Socorro, Ysleta, and San Elizario — have functioned as the religious and social centers of their communities virtually uninterrupted since their founding in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Mission Valley, which is located 15 miles southeast of downtown El Paso, is the oldest settled area of El Paso and one of the oldest settlements in the United States.

The Historic Missions Preservation Fund supports the on-going restoration and preservation of El Paso's three historic missions, included in the National Register of Historic Places and are Texas historical landmarks. #wakeupwednesday #historicmissions #catholiclegcyfund #101fundsandcounting

Let us remember those who courageously gave their lives 🙏🏽🇺🇸

God of power and mercy, you destroy war and put down earthly pride.

Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears, that we may all deserve to be called your sons and daughters.

Keep in your mercy those men and women who have died in the cause of freedom and bring them safely
into your kingdom of justice and peace.

We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Feast of the Holy Trinity

“The dogma of the Holy Trinity is a mystery we can never fully understand, at least in this life. How can there be only one God yet three separate persons each with their own nature and equal to each other? But it does teach us one very clear truth, crucially important and with practical consequences. The very essence of God’s nature is not a mystery of isolation or individualism but of sharing, of mutual outpouring, of giving and receiving. The exchange of love between Father and Son is what Jesus called the Holy Spirit, the spirit of love. — Father Michael Campbell-Johnston, SJ

El Paso Street Sign Blessed, Honors Beloved Queen of Peace Parishioner

Elsa Maldonado's passing in 2017 after a valiant battle with cancer left her husband and self-proclaimed trail and tent mate, Victor, reeling from the loss and focused on keeping her memory alive. In 2019, he attended the 13th Annual Foundation of Faith Dinner: When We Sing, We Pray Twice with Catholic singer songwriter Matt Maher, and discovered an opportunity to do something special for his angel. He purchased the Name Your Own Street sign package, donated by CareFree Homes, because it reminded him of Elsa's strength, grace, and tenacity when they walked the Camino de Santiago following her third round of chemotherapy, and brought to mind the Way of St. James, which goes from Jean Pied de Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

On Saturday, May 22, Father Edilberto "Beto" López, pastor of St. Pius X Parish in the Diocese of El Paso and family friend, blessed Elsa Maldonado Lane. Located in Northeast El Paso where Victor and Elsa grew up, Elsa Maldonado Lane has a beautiful view of the Franklin Mountains. It's a location fit for a queen, now welcoming new families to the neighborhood to live joyfully and happily ever after. #wakeupwednesday #queenofpeace #catholiclegcacyfund #101fundsandcounting

Feast of Pentecost

"Lord, send out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth." — Psalm 104:1

Pentecost is considered the birthday of the Church. Peter, the first Pope, preaches for the first time and converts thousands of new believers. For the first time, the apostles and believers are united by a common language, and a common zeal and purpose to go and preach the Gospel.

Our diocese is rich in cultural diversity, including the strong Catholic presence of the Filipino community. In 2007, the Filipino American Catholic Community Fund joined the Catholic Legacy Fund, the Catholic Foundation's endowment program, with a generous gift of $12,500 from one donor. The permanent fund was established as a legacy to the Filipino heritage, and to provide annual support for retired priests and vocations in perpetuity. Proceeds from the annual Simbang Gabi, a Filipino Christmas tradition, benefit the Filipino American Catholic Community Fund. The fund has grown to over $175,000 with an abundance of support from the Filipino American Catholic Community. Since inception, annual distributions from the fund total $46,365. #wakeupwednesday #pinoy #catholiclegacyfund #101fundsandcountin7

Our Story

We have much to celebrate and even more to be grateful for. From a start-up Foundation in 2001, the Foundation has grown to be a philanthropic leader in our community with $20 million in assets. Since 2001, the Catholic Foundation has raised $19.4 million for endowment and now manages 101 separate endowed funds to provide continual resources for years to come. The Foundation for the Diocese of El Paso is an independent 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.

The Foundation manages five programs: the Catholic Legacy Fund, the Foundation’s endowment program; Progress, the Catholic Ministry Appeal which provides operational funds for diocesan ministries; and the Grants Development Office which seeks foundation and corporate grants for ministries, schools, and parishes. In addition to that, the Foundation promotes Stewardship as a way of life and the principles “Pray, Serve, Give” through training and materials for schools and parishes. Finally, there is the Foundation’s Scholarship Program, which supports the education of Foundation Scholars attending El Paso’s Catholic schools every year.

Thank you so much for being a part of our extended family. During these uncertain times, there is one thing that hasn't and won't change: our commitment to improving the lives of people in the Diocese of El Paso. Your unwavering generosity, especially during this extraordinary time, is an inspiration. Thank you for your support!

Its that time of year once again when we begin to think about our New Year’s Resolutions. Resolving to pray the rosary daily would be a wonderful resolution to consider! A good way to help keep the resolution spark alive is to have a special rosary that looks and feels great in your hand. We offer rosaries made from a number of natural materials with a variety of bead sizes and weights…. Some feel very substantial and some are very light weight. We have a rosary to suit almost everyone. Take a look at our many offerings, and make the resolution to pray the rosary each day in 2021 and for decades to come!
What a wonderful, well organized and successful event!!! We were all blessed to have Matt perform and to honor a great example of a faithful Catholic family. Thanks to all who planned and executed such a fun evening!!
