Jesus, when I hear the Gospel about giving to all that ask, I feel overwhelmed. Is that what you really meant? It is hard for me to be generous when I fear that I won’t have enough for my own needs. You urge me to Trust and to turn all of those needs over to you. Grant me a Generous Heart. Remind me to give Thanks each day for the Gifts I was given. Then it won’t be hard to give out of the abundance that is mine. In Your Sacred name I pray. Amen
Remember, it’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.

Pope Francis canonized two new saints: St. Artemide Zatti and St. Giovanni Battista Scalabrini

Early this morning, Pope Francis announced the canonization of two new saints born in Italy in the 19th century. Scalabrini and Zatti ministered to hundreds of thousands of Italian immigrants in their time.

In his homily at the outdoor Mass held in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Francis said the two new saints can intercede and “help us to walk together, without walls of division; and to cultivate that nobility of soul, so pleasing to God, which is gratitude.”

St. Artemide Zatti and St. Giovanni Battista Scalabrini, Pray for us.

Happy Feast Day, Saint Francis of Assisi!
1181-1226
Patronage: animals, the environment, Italy, merchants, archeologists, stowaways

Francis was born into a privileged life of wealth. As a young adult, and by the grace of God, worldly desires no longer satisfied him. He left all his possessions and embraced complete poverty, taking the Gospel as his rule of life. Eventually, he founded the religious order of Franciscans, whose focus was to make poverty holy, preach the gospel, and work to bring the word of God to the world that desperately needed it. He is known as the first person to receive the stigmata.

He died on October 4, 1226, at Portiuncula, Italy and was canonized by Gregory IX less than two years later.

Share the Good News!

Now is the time to deepen our devotion to the Eucharist and spread the Good News. Our world is hurting! The Holy Spirit is sending us out on a mission to share the Gift of our Eucharistic Lord. Never underestimate the power of faith to make an everlasting impact over our future generations. How can we be the gift for the future?

Report it to your children. Have your children report it to their children, and their children to the next generation. — Joel 1:3

Father Rick Matty† was dynamic, energetic, and a powerful force for good.

He was the founding Executive Director of Diocesan Migrant & Refugee Services (DMRS), served as vicar general and the diocesan administrator when the diocese was sede vacante, and is one of the men credited with bringing the ACTS movement to El Paso. He was integral in establishing a medical mission in Chiapas with Dr. Charlie Gutierrez and others.

Father Matty created the St. Patrick Cathedral Historic Preservation Fund, a permanent endowed fund to provide funding for preservation and restoration in perpetuity. He replaced the Cathedral’s organ after it was destroyed when hit by lightning for the second time in 1997, and, at the time of his death, the St. Patrick Cathedral School gym building and library projects, and the St. Patrick Cathedral ministry center, were close to completion.

Our Story

We have much to celebrate and even more to be grateful for. From a start-up Foundation in 2001, the Foundation has grown to be a philanthropic leader in our community with $20 million in assets. Since 2001, the Catholic Foundation has raised $19.4 million for endowment and now manages 101 separate endowed funds to provide continual resources for years to come. The Foundation for the Diocese of El Paso is an independent 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization.

The Foundation manages five programs: the Catholic Legacy Fund, the Foundation’s endowment program; Progress, the Catholic Ministry Appeal which provides operational funds for diocesan ministries; and the Grants Development Office which seeks foundation and corporate grants for ministries, schools, and parishes. In addition to that, the Foundation promotes Stewardship as a way of life and the principles “Pray, Serve, Give” through training and materials for schools and parishes. Finally, there is the Foundation’s Scholarship Program, which supports the education of Foundation Scholars attending El Paso’s Catholic schools every year.

Thank you so much for being a part of our extended family. During these uncertain times, there is one thing that hasn't and won't change: our commitment to improving the lives of people in the Diocese of El Paso. Your unwavering generosity, especially during this extraordinary time, is an inspiration. Thank you for your support!

Its that time of year once again when we begin to think about our New Year’s Resolutions. Resolving to pray the rosary daily would be a wonderful resolution to consider!

A good way to help keep the resolution spark alive is to have a special rosary that looks and feels great in your hand. We offer rosaries made from a number of natural materials with a variety of bead sizes and weights…. Some feel very substantial and some are very light weight. We have a rosary to suit almost everyone.

Take a look at our many offerings, and make the resolution to pray the rosary each day in 2021 and for decades to come!
What a wonderful, well organized and successful event!!! We were all blessed to have Matt perform and to honor a great example of a faithful Catholic family. Thanks to all who planned and executed such a fun evening!!
