“My veteran husband was driving in our town when weather sirens went off and he said it sounded just like incoming mortar sirens in Iraq. He ran out of his car, jumped in the ditch and called me, saying, ‘They’re bombing us, you need to get safe.’ He thought he was in Iraq and was warning me. It was then I knew, things had changed.”

Jenn is a caregiver to her wounded Iraq combat veteran husband, Keith, and also recently adopted her three grandkids. She’s passionate about empowering other caregivers as a Red Cross volunteer.

“COVID-19 is bringing the needs of family caregivers to light. Caregivers are having to take care of their wounded vets, teach kids and manage the household. We’ve been living in this state for so long now with no end in sight. Hope is all we have. People are really isolated and feel like they really need to connect, and they want to do it any way possible.”

Our Military and Veteran Caregiver network is a community led by family caregivers, like Jenn, for other caregivers, and has doubled in size since March with over 6,100 members. The network offers online communities for family caregivers to connect by sharing, socializing, learning and training.

“My cup is filled by making other people happy, by being able to bring joy and hope to other family caregivers."

*ANNOUNCEMENT* The amended come to work safe, live safe memo, in effect today, aligns Fort Bliss to the City of El Paso restrictions.

For those who like the 'bottom line up front':
The 3rd amendment from October 26th is still in effect, this memo rescinds and changes the October 16th guidance to include the following:

1) All personnel are to adhere to the local authority’s directives regarding essential activities, travel and facial coverings - here or elsewhere.
2) Adds Grandparents in the 'immediate family member' category for in-home visitors, it now includes Parents and siblings/in-laws.
3) specifications to fitness group size and sanitization and distance during exercise.

We are asking all to continue to do their part, remain vigilant, and protect yourselves and others from the threat of the virus AND thank you for all you do to help keep each other safe.

Announcement from the 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Sean Bernabe:

Since early October, El Paso and surrounding communities have seen wide-spread transmission of COVID-19. We continue to watch these trends closely and stay in contact with City Leaders.

Earlier today, in a press release, the El Paso COVID-19 Task Force highlighted three sources of community spread: (1) visiting local stores; (2) eating at restaurants and bars; and (3) traveling to and from Mexico. The Mayor and other officials are taking action within El Paso to address these three areas.

Unfortunately, we continue to see steep increases in active cases on Fort Bliss. To help slow the spread of COVID-19 within the Fort Bliss Community, we must take aggressive action now.

In light of the most recent decisions of El Paso officials and the restrictions they put in place, I have made the decision to adjust our posture on Fort Bliss. These changes will ensure we protect the health of our Fort Bliss Community while also supporting and remaining in synch with our El Paso neighbors.

Today, I signed the Third Amended Fort Bliss Come to Work Safe, Live Safe Order. Here are a few key changes from the updated order:

(1) Curfew for Fort Bliss. Travel deemed non-mission essential will cease from 10 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. This curfew aligns exactly with the City of El Paso.

(2) Visitor Restrictions. The only authorized persons within residence are members of the household and immediate family members or those present for the purpose of conducting authorized essential activities. This restriction is in alignment with the City of El Paso.

(3) Teleworking. Unit commanders and/or supervisors are encouraged to utilize teleworking to reduce the number of personnel physically present in the work place on a daily basis.

(4) Cancellation of Trunk-or-treating events. Unit-sponsored trunk-or-treat events are no longer authorized. This cancellation also aligns with El Paso guidance. The MWR drive-thru event is the only remaining authorized Halloween event on Fort Bliss.

(5) Off-post dining and restaurant services. While within the greater El Paso area, service members are prohibited from sit-down dining or “dining-in” at off-post restaurants. Non-service members are highly encouraged to follow these instructions.

There are no additional changes to current facility hours and operations as the previous amended Come to Work Safe, Live Safe order specifies.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and compliance with these new measures. Again, it is imperative that we take aggressive action now to help flatten the curve within the Fort Bliss Community and in the greater El Paso area.

Mayor of El Paso - Dee Margo

Mayor of El Paso - Dee Margo

The fight against COVID-19 is not over. This morning, we reported 717 new positive cases. This unprecedented number of new cases has left us no other option than to implement restrictions to slow the spread of the virus.

The following will take effect at 12:01 AM:
-Limit occupancies back to 50%
-After 9:00 PM restaurants are limited to take out and drive-thru only
-Gatherings in parks are limited to groups of 10 or less
-Pause all indoor sports and limit outdoor sports to no spectators
-No home gatherings
-No visitors to facilities that care for the elderly
-ALL requests for exemption submitted to my office for any gathering from this point forward are suspended until further notice

I am in contact with hospital leadership on a daily basis in order to make appropriate requests for resources from the Governor Abbott. As requested, 100 hospital personnel arrived this week.

Region 19 asked me to contact the Governor’s office to express support for delaying in person instruction at schools. They are still going through the process with TEA, and we hope to receive an answer today.

Early voting is underway, and our new directive will not impact polling locations, or your ability to cast your vote. Safety protocols have been issued and are being followed by the County Elections Department.

We are not statistics, we are people- and we need to protect our people, and the only way we are going to protect each other and our community is by wearing face coverings, social distance, limit outings to essential needs only, and wash our hands.

El Paso is resilient, and we will get through this. I will continue to communicate with the Governor to ensure we have what we need to persevere. El Paso, I implore you, we must take care of ourselves to take care of each other. #ElPasoTX #COVID19

***IMPORTANT***

Due to the recent change in El Paso Community restrictions and for the safety and well-being of everyone, our Zombie Run has been cancelled and Mobile Teddy Bear has been modified.

Refunds will be given to all that registered and paid for the Zombie Run. Please be patient while we work out the details to refund your registration fee. Please stay tuned on Facebook for more information regarding the refund process.

If you have yet to pick up your zombie neck gaiter that came with your registration, you will be able to pick it up today, Friday October 16th, at Freedom Crossing 11am -1pm. If you are unable to make it, you can get it when you go for a refund.

Teddy Bear Mobile will now be a "take-home kit." The kit includes everything the original ticket price included (shell, stuffing, charm, birth certificate and backpack) and you will still be able to choose your buddy. We will be providing everyone that purchased tickets a chance to choose their pet early next week (more details to follow). You will be able to pick up your kits next Saturday, October 24th, from 10am - 1pm or the following week at your convenience.

We still have approximately 78 take home kits available at the $10.00 price thanks to our wonderful sponsors USAA. Your last chance to purchase your tickets is today from 11am -1pm at Freedom Crossing.

Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause, the health and safety of our Fort Bliss Community is at the forefront of our decisions. Stay safe and we hope to be back to providing safe and fun programming for our soldiers and families soon!
