Did you know the VA reports that 1.6 million Claims compensation paper checks go uncashed each year and that the paper checks are 16 times more likely to be lost or stolen than payments received via direct deposit? Additionally, some veterans have waited up to 45 days for unauthorized charges on their Direct Express Debit Card to be investigated.

Texas is among the states with the most veterans receiving their VA Claims compensation with paper checks or Direct Express Debit Card via the mail. Ensure your VA compensation is received promptly through direct deposit.

For veterans without a bank or credit union account, the VA has set up a direct deposit option, visit the Veterans Benefits Banking Program www.benefits.va.gov/benefits/banking.asp or call the National Call Center at 1-800-827-1000.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) National Cemetery Administration (NCA) today announced it would lift all restrictions on gathering sizes at committal and memorial services in VA national cemeteries starting on Wednesday, May 26, 2021.

Earlier this week, the NCA announced it had adjusted its rules for visitors and staff members in accordance with the CDC’s new guidance, Interim Public Health Recommendations for Fully Vaccinated People [nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com]. Fully vaccinated persons are no longer required to wear masks and physically distance themselves while at a national cemetery.

Consistent with the new CDC guidance, NCA still requires persons who are not fully vaccinated to practice the safety procedures recommended by the CDC – such as wearing face coverings and maintaining physical distancing – while visiting a cemetery or attending a service.

Carry The Load partners with VA’s national cemeteries

Carry The Load is partnering with VA’s national cemeteries to honor and remember America’s heroes during Memorial May, the third year in a row. Carry The Load provides an active way to honor and remember the fallen. During visits across the nation, people can join to hike or bike alongside members. This connects Americans to the sacrifices made by military members, Veterans, first responders and their families. Participants many times carry a paper affixed to their back or backpack, highlighting a fallen hero. This shows who they honor by “carrying the load.”

The DHHS contractor executing the local (East Fort Bliss) unaccompanied children mission, is in immediate need of over 1,000 employees. This is a great opportunity for our local job seekers and veterans. Fort Bliss Transition Assistance Program counselors will be on-site to assist applicants with resumes and applications in person. This is a hiring fair, not a career fair. That means the DHHS contractor’s intent is to hire on-the-spot. This DHHS contractor that is hiring, is also the contractor for many FEMA disaster responses, so long-term potential for top-performers is there.

Veterans Land Board, George P. Bush - Chairman

Texas loves its Veterans. The proof is the number of state programs and benefits offered in addition to the services administered by the U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA). Navigating through the process to obtain all these great benefits can be challenging and often equates to a full-time job. To make the job easier, the Texas Veterans Commission Claims Benefits Advisors or your local county Veteran Service Officers (VSO) are available to help.

Every Texas county has a VSO or partners with a nearby county to offer Texas Veterans a one-stop shop for help and information. Most Veteran Service Officers are VA-accredited to help Veterans with claims from health care to pensions and everything in between. They are also experts on survivor’s benefits.

Military.com published a comprehensive list of state benefits afforded to Texas Veterans and can be found here - https://www.military.com/benefits/veteran-state-benefits/texas-state-veterans-benefits.html

One especially important benefit covered in the article is Texas Veteran’s property tax exemptions.* In Texas, Veterans with a disability rating of:

· 100% are exempt from all property taxes

· 70 to 100% receive a $12,000 property tax exemption

· 50 to 69% receive a $10,000 property tax exemption

· 30 to 49% receive a $7,500 property tax exemption

· 10 to 29% receive a $5,000 property tax exemption

These property tax exemptions combined with the benefits the Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) offers, such as our home and land loan programs, provide serious savings for Veterans. If you are a Veteran unsure that you are getting all the benefits you deserve or need VA claims help, you may want to reach out to the TVC or your county VSO - http://vcsoat.org/texas-cso-county-regions/

Here’s an example of how a Veteran with a 30% or more VA disability could benefit** by combining federal, state and county programs:

· our discounted VLB home loan interest rate (2.39% week of April 12, 2021);

· a VA home loan with no down payment or private mortgage insurance;

· a county property tax exemption from $7500 to $12,000.

The VLB thanks all Veterans who served our country. We stand ready to help you. For more information on all VLB benefits, please visit: www.vlb.texas.gov

*Please contact your local apprasal district to verify your tax exemption.

Can someone please help me with a question or 2? My rating was updated to a higher percentage and I received back pay and everything, and today they paid me my old rating even after receiving a warrant that suggested my updated rating. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you to all of you who have bravely served our country, you're incredible heroes! I've been feeling very patriotic recently and decided to watch a new documentary on Army Aviators deployed in Afghanistan called Above the Best. The film is the latest work of director David Salzberg, who has produced many other noteworthy combat films such as Hornet's Nest and Citizen Soldier. The film reminded me of how truly incredible our soldiers are and I thought it was really wonderful that the veterans within the documentary were open to having such an honest discussion on the mental health struggles they've faced. Just thought it shined a well-deserved spotlight on these men and women and wanted to share with others who I felt might appreciate it. The trailer is on the official website and the movie is available on VOD pretty much everywhere if you're interested!
I have been trying to contact your office for 2 months now. I have been calling the phone number that was given to me through messenger and have had no luck getting through. Nobody has answered the phone when I call and was forwarded to a Claudia Martinez's voicemail and have not gotten a call back.
