Announcement from the Commanding General, 1st Armored Division and Fort Bliss, Maj. Gen. Sean Bernabe:

Unfortunately, COVID infection rates in the El Paso area continue to increase. To protect the force and to remain in alignment with our city partners, I have directed additional measures for the Fort Bliss Community.

Effective immediately, Fort Bliss will operate at essential services only. We have closed Biggs Park, Underwood Golf Course, Bowling Center, Centennial Club, Soldiers Activity Center/Warrior Zone, and Tennis Courts. The Child Development Centers will operate at current levels; Fitness Centers, and lap swim at the Aquatic Center remain open, however, no instructor-led classes and no change to Army Community Service services. The main Exchange, Shoppettes, Military Clothing Sales, Commissary, Class VI, and Barbershops will remain open. Restaurants and Freedom Crossing will be limited to 25% capacity. All other retail stores will be closed.

William Beaumont Army Medical Center remains postured to provide medical support to the Fort Bliss installation and all eligible beneficiaries. We have taken prudent measures to maintain our ability to treat patients and ensure appropriate levels of supplies. These measures include cancellation and suspension of all elective procedures and realignment of assets to increase capacity at the main hospital.

The Health Protection Condition at Fort Bliss remains at Level Charlie. This means we continue to keep the following measures: social distancing, reducing exposure and personal contact, washing hands regularly, and wearing face masks.

These collective restrictions keep us in-step with El Paso City Officials so that we are good neighbors. These measures are in place to protect the force and balance readiness requirements.

Soldiers and Family Members, Defense Finance and Accounting Service has announced that it will begin deferring payroll taxes labeled “FICA-Social Security” on the Leave and Earnings Statement beginning Sept. 12 until the end of the year. This amount is calculated at 6.2% of your basic pay. The payroll tax deferment applies to ranks of E-1 through O-4 or those who make less than $104,000 per year.

Please note that this will have to be collected by the IRS between January 1 and April 30, 2021 at 12.4% of the basic pay rate. Please review the chart for an estimate of the tax deferment based on rank and years of service. For more information, visit https://www.dfas.mil/taxes/Social-Security-Deferral/.

This last week as Echo Company continues to support the battalion across all areas, The Wolfpack rose from the shadows.

Echo Company's focus is on providing the best logistical support and becoming a more lethal unit. With this new image and mindset, Soldiers took on the opportunity to conduct Urban Operations training at night using night vision devices. Wolves also received instructions on how to properly load and evacuate a casualty on a FLA. Wolves across the formation continue to improve their skills, building proficiency and enabling the battalion’s mission.

"Effective 1 August 2020, the requirement for officer, warrant officer and enlisted selection boards to include the DA Photo as part of the board file is suspended. Data that identifies a Soldier’s race, ethnicity, and gender on the Officer Record Brief and the Enlisted Record Brief will be redacted as a part of the board file. These changes will help ensure that selection boards are as fair and impartial as possible." - Secretary of the U.S. Army Ryan McCarthy and Chief of Staff, Army, Gen. James McConville. Stay professional; follow all guidelines and policies.

The democratic process can be loud and messy. The military’s policy is to stay out of politics. This separation provides important checks on power. Thus, any activity that may be reasonably viewed as directly or indirectly associating DoD, or any component or personnel of DoD, with a partisan political activity -- or is otherwise contrary to the spirit and intention of our policy guidance -- must be avoided.

This week’s Warrior of the Week is our very own SPC Krause! Way to represent, and support the unit. Job well done!

Warrior of the Week: 04 MAY 2020
SPC Krause, Ryan

Duty Position: 94S Patriot System Repairer

SPC Krause currently serves as a 94S for Echo Company's ISE section. Upon the start of his deployment, SPC Krause directly contributed to Charlie Battery and 2-43 ADA SSA's overall success in site set up and daily operations. SPC Krause's technical competence enabled him to single-handedly troubleshoot and fix multiple faults found in systems with minimal supervision required. SPC Krause was also actively involved in setting up the SSA site. His knowledge and abilities outside his MOS were utilized to ensure the SSA gained a reliable power source for all of its buildings. SPC Krause has also taken it upon himself to assist the Battalion mail clerks when his work is complete. He displays passion towards his craft and a remarkable ability to work cohesively with any Soldier, NCO, or Officer he encounters. He fully embodies the "Warrior" spirit.

A couple of weeks ago we held a small unit awards ceremony. During this ceremony we recognized a few of our Soldiers. First off we said farewell to SSG Santiago, who has been playing many key roles around the company successfully and now will serve as a Drill Sergeant. A true leader of Soldiers who we are confident will do great things in his new assignment. Secondly we recognized the hard work of SGT Allen, SGT Goodwin, SPC Sanborn, SGT Israel, SGT Pryce, SPC Lee and SPC Hallmark.

Last week we said farewell to one of our hardest working leaders in the company. SSG Abrams was an asset from day one in Echo Company, and the Delta FMT he so passionately lead. Putting the accomplishment of the mission and the welfare of his Soldiers as his top priorities, SSG Abrams served with distinction and embraced the ‘Death before Failure’ attitude. We wish him and his family the best on their future endeavors.
