Yesterday, we cased the colors of 2nd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery. The Battalion's colors and heraldry will be held by the Army's Center for Military History until called on again to serve our Nation. Each of us who had the opportunity to serve as a Battle Ready Soldier will always be proud to be associated with this awesome unit, and to share in it's history.

Memorial Day is a time of reflection, a time to remember the sacrifices of those who have come before us and to honor all of the brave men and women who gave their lives defending our nation and values.

We invite you to attend the Memorial Day ceremony at Fort Bliss National Cemetery on Monday at 9am to honor the heroes who sacrificed their lives to ensure we could all live free.

We also invite you to take a minute to pause during your Memorial Day activities at 3pm as part of the "National Moment of Remembrance" to reflect on the sacrifices all of our American Heroes have made for our benefit. #IronSoldiers #MemorialDay

Battle Ready...
Memorial Day Message
Please enjoy your long weekend and all the fun that comes with it, but please remember that Memorial Day is not a holiday, it's a remembrance. Memorial Day is more than skiing at the lake, lounging by the pool, BBQs and backyard football. All of those wonderful American traditions of Summer are possible only because of the men and women who sacrificed in defense of this Nation.

President John F. Kennedy said, “A nation reveals itself not only by the men it produces, but also by the men it remembers, the men it honors.” Memorial Day is a day to remember, and honor the bravest who have ever walked among us. It is one of this Nation's oldest and most significant days of honor, born solely of a shared American heritage of service and sacrifice. We owe an enormous debt of gratitude to those men and women who took up arms against America's enemies when their Nation called them to action.

So while you enjoy a well-earned long weekend, remember the fathers, brothers, sons, mothers, sisters, and daughters, who gave all of their tomorrows so that you could live in freedom and enjoy something as simple as a long weekend. This is why I ask that wherever you are this weekend, take a moment, pause and remember the brave American service men and women who gave their last full-measure. Just as importantly, please remember the families they left behind, not everyone will be celebrating this weekend.

Total team effort this week getting our howitzers, RADARs, fire direction centers, and FIST sections live fire certified. The soldiers of 2-29 always exceed the standard.

01/29/2014

Quick update on the ongoing training your soldiers are engaged in. Bravo Battery is complete with howitzer certifications and the Gators are up next. The FISTs from 2-13, 1-77 and 4-6 have certified two sections each, HHB is running the show and the Ghostriders are making it all go. Thanks to a total team effort, the BN is able to get after some great training out here in the cold deserts of New Mexico. Special thanks to our mechanics, food service personnel and logisticians who are pulling off a Herculean endeavor. Great job to all so far. Now its up to all of us to get better everyday.
