Last month the district took possession of two new tenders. Sold by Floyd Bacon and manufactured by Custom Fire Apparatus, Inc. Funds were made available through a lease purchase.

These trucks will supply 3500 gallons of water each, for structure and wildland fires, with the option of pump and roll operating. The addition of the tenders are great assets as they will provide more water to our district during firefighting efforts.

Department and community members revealed the new tenders on July 25th.

We would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to Franktown Fire Protection District for allowing Elbert Fire members to participate in the Firefighter I academies for the last 4 years.
Additionally, a thank you to Chief Woodrick, Captain Aldridge, Division Chief Potton, Division Chief Bertram and Lieutenant Kale Baker, as the main instructors of the academies. Your years of experience and knowledge of firefighting have helped our members learn from the best and grow into great firefighters.

CONGRATULATIONS!! We are proud of our Elbert Fire members John Eaton, Dustin Baird, Aiden Brabec and Alex Higgins for completing the Firefighter 1 Academy in conjunction with Franktown Fire and West Douglas Fire this past Saturday, July 18, 2026. With their hard work and dedication, members were able to receive Fire 1 and Hazmat Certifications.
Dalton Homer was also awarded "Instructor of the Year" from the members of the fire academy.

As we go into the 4th of July weekend, please be mindful of all restrictions!

Our great nations 250th birthday is something to be celebrated, though we ask the community to do so in a smart manner. In order to keep our community safe, many restrictions have been put in place.

ALL FIREWORKS ARE PROHIBITED in unincorporated Elbert County! Including those that are normally considered legal. We understand the frustration, though these restrictions are in place to protect lives, property, and resources. A single spark could lead to a wildfire, and as many know, our state has been harshly affected by wildfires already.

Due to extreme fire danger and dry conditions, these restrictions are in place, and for good reason. We encourage our community members to celebrate safely, by attending community events or professional firework displays.

If you see something, say something! If you observe the use of illegal fireworks, call the Firework Hotline at 303-814-7118 that is staffed from 6 PM to midnight, if outside those hours, contact Douglas Regional 9-1-1 non-emergency line at 303-660-7500. Only utilize calling 9-1-1 in the case of a true emergency, such as seeing active flames or smoke.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and fellow firefighters of the 3 who were lost this past weekend.

We are saddened to share the identities of the three firefighters we lost responding to the Knowles Fire in western Colorado on Saturday. The firefighters were assigned to the Rifle Helitack crew and were engaged in initial attack operations on the Knowles Fire when the incident occurred.

The deceased firefighters have been identified as:
💜Emily Barker, 38, of Clinton Township, Michigan, assigned to the U.S. Forest Service Rifle Helitack.

💜Nick Hutcherson, 27 of Glendale, Arizona, assigned to the U.S. Forest Service Kaibab National Forest.

💜Sydney Watson, 27, of Warrior, Alabama, assigned to the U.S. Wildland Fire Service Rifle Helitack.

Two additional firefighters were injured during the incident and are receiving medical care.

“We mourn the loss of three firefighters who answered the call to protect others and made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their fellow citizens,” said U.S. Wildland Fire Service Chief Brian Fennessy. “Our thoughts are with their families, loved ones, friends and crewmates as they face an unimaginable loss. These firefighters embodied the courage, professionalism and selflessness that define the wildland fire service. Please join me and my family in keeping our thoughts and prayers with the families of the fallen and our injured firefighters and their families.”
