The City of Elgin is accepting applications for members on the following Boards and Committees: Board of Adjustments, Building Standards Commissions, Elgin Economic Development Corporation, Historic Review Board, Library Advisory Board, Main Street Board, Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, Planning & Zoning Commission, and Public Safety Advisory Committee for terms beginning October 1, 2023. Applicants must generally be registered voters of the City, have resided within the City limits, be an owner of property within the corporate limits of the City, or an owner of a business within the corporate limits for at least 12 months preceding appointment.

Good afternoon Elgin 101 classmates... There are some good opportunities to get involved with the city in June and help volunteer at the City booth and fun games...

The City is looking for volunteers for the Elgin Juneteenth Parade booth happening Saturday June 10th... as well as the Western Days Saturday June 24th.

If you're able to attend even one of those please let me know. Thank you. As you know these are from morning to evening events with lots of fun things happening at each. Especially Juneteenth!

Hey classmates... The city has asked for our help with sharing city information this Saturday May 6th at Circle Brewery during their Grand opening. This is a great way to keep Elgin 101 Academy alive and share in the knowledge we have learned. They are looking for help between the hours of 10am and 2pm. If anyone is able to help volunteer please let me know soon.

Also they would love help during sip shop and stroll next Month Thursday May 11th from 5pm to 8pm. This is a great way again to engage with our community.

The Elgin 101 graduating class of 2023 was recognized tonight at the City Council Meeting. Congratulations!!!

The City of Elgin 101 is a Citizens Academy used by the City to teach residents about day-to-day functions and roles of local government. The purpose of the City of Elgin 101 is to educate residents about operations, cultivate future leaders, and showcase talents of City staff. The program is a great prerequisite for serving on a City board or commission.

The City of Elgin 101 consisted of eight informational sessions on Monday evenings from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM, beginning January 23, through March 2023. Presentations were featured by multiple representatives from City departments. Twenty residents participated. Last month was the end of the eight-week program. The graduation ceremony for participants was held at tonight’s City Council meeting. Well done!
