PRESCRIPTION DRUG TAKE-BACK PROGRAM UPDATE

Effective May 25, 2026, the Elizabethtown Police Department will no longer be accepting prescription medications in either the lobby or drop box. Residents wishing to properly discard old, unwanted, or unused prescription medications are encouraged to visit the Prescription Drug Take-Back Program website (https://www.pa.gov/agencies/ddap/substance-use-prevention/prescription-drug-take-back-program) for more information and to locate the nearest drop box location.

ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES CLOSED

On May 1, 2026 at 11:30 am, the Elizabethtown Police Department Administrative Offices will be closing in order for staff to attend the funeral services of former Mayor Clarence "Chuck" S. Mummert Jr who faithfully served the Elizabethtown community as mayor with honor and great distinction from 2010-2025. Mayor Mummert's leadership and cheerful personality will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The Elizabethtown Police Department extends our heartfelt condolences to the Mummert family.

Please know officers will be on duty during this time to respond to calls for service and offices will resume normal business hours on May 4, 2026.

EPD ANNOUNCES THE PROMOTION OF OFFICER ALEXANDER LEONARD TO THE RANK OF CORPORAL

Please join us in congratulating Officer Alexander Leonard on his promotion to the rank of Corporal effective April 12, 2026. During the promotional ceremony, Mayor Phillip Clark administered the Oath of Office as Corporal Leonard was surrounded by family, friends, colleagues and borough staff.

Corporal Leonard has served the Elizabethtown community since 2011; specializes in many disciplines to include Field Training Officer (FTO) / Crash Reconstructionist and was named Officer of the Year in 2024. We know Corporal Leonard will be a continued leader and asset to the department in his new role.

SNOW EMERGENCY DECLARATION

Elizabethtown Borough has declared a snow emergency effective as of 6:00 am on February 22, 2026 and lasting until 4:00 pm on February 24, 2026, unless otherwise extended by the Borough.

In order to facilitate the movement of traffic and combat the hazards of snow and ice, parking is prohibited on the snow emergency routes in accordance with the Borough Ordinance.

Snow emergency routes within the Borough are:

• The entire length of High Street

• The entire length of Market Street

• College Avenue between Market Street and Spruce Street

• Spruce Street between College Avenue and Willow Street

• Willow Street between Spruce Street and Market Street

While the Snow Emergency Declaration is in effect, the Elizabethtown Police Department is authorized to have vehicles that are parked on snow emergency routes towed at the owner’s expense. To assist with snow removal efforts, residents are encouraged to remove vehicles from all public streets during winter weather conditions. Residents are reminded that snow and/or ice accumulation is to be removed from sidewalks within 12 hours of the end of a winter weather event.

Residents are urged not to travel if at all possible and reminded that reserving parking spaces with chairs or other objects is not permitted.

The Elizabethtown Police Department is accepting applications for the position of FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER. Applications can be obtained either in-person at the Elizabethtown Police Department Office - 600 South Hanover Street, Elizabethtown, PA 17022, or they can be downloaded directly from the PoliceApp.com website at www.PoliceApp.com/elizabethtownPA.

Completed and notarized application packets must be received or postmarked before 4:00 pm (est.) on Friday, March 20, 2026.

Prior ACT 120 Police Academy certification & police experience is preferred, however, it is not required. Paid ACT 120 Police Academy training is provided to non-certified applicants who are selected and hired by EPD.
