Today we began the day with a presentation from Lisa Turner, a local relator here in Elko. She talked with the class about her job and the steps to write a great sale ad for a house. We are going to use her information to create and write sale ads for our haunted houses. Stay tuned for the final products next week on Halloween, if you dare.
Also here are some comments from Lisa about her time with our class. "Today I had the pleasure of talking with a 3rd Grade class about writing For Sale Ads for homes and what a Realtors job is. They have a project to build a haunted house and write a For Sale Ad for it. Note to my colleagues--there are some upcoming kiddos who will absolutely be top agents. They asked me contract negotiation questions and about editing and reviewing written copy before posting to social media. I'm going to review their adverts and give prizes for the best ones. Hopefully I can share those with you. So excited by how motivated and excited they were."
Thanks Lisa Turner. Your presentation was inspiring today. A couple of the kids even said they want to be a relator now!

Today we read the Marshmallow Incident, discussed narrative text structure and began using the STEM process to plan marshmallow towers. Tomorrow we will pull out the tooth picks and marshmallows to create the towers that need to be 3 feet high and stand independently. Ask your kids what they planned today!

Our class had an amazing first week. We learned the first 43 phonograms, worked with narrative text elements, learned our brain can grown and change while learning math and mistakes are part of the process, and many community building activities. The highlight was creating our class handshake. The synergy in the room was just a glimpse of the great things these kids are going to accomplish.

My Donor's Chooose project has $66 left to be a completely funded project. It is almost the last day for matching funds using the promo code LIFTOFF. This means that when someone donates $33, donorschoose.org will match the funds and our classroom project will be funded. Is there anyone who can help us out? Thanks again to all of you who have helped me get this first project funded for my kids. Also, your donations to Donor's Choose are tax deductible.

Hi Friends,
I want to make sure my students have the materials they need to succeed, so I just created a DonorsChoose.org classroom request.

The title of my request is called 21st Century Learning: Collaboration, Technology, Leadership, and Problem Solving.

I would like to ask for your support. When you give to my classroom by August 19, 2016, your donation will be doubled thanks to DonorsChoose.org. Just enter the code LIFTOFF during checkout and you'll be matched dollar for dollar (up to $100).

In return, you'll get awesome photos of your gift in action and our heartfelt thanks.

School starts in two weeks, and I'd love to have this project funded in in place for my kids!

If you know anyone who may want to help my students, please share and pass this along!
