He is known for his progressive values and desire to improve the quality of life in Rural Nevada. John Patrick Rice served for three terms on the Elko City Council. His leadership resulted in the expansion of water and sewer systems for industrial development, construction of a much needed new police station, and the continued development of retail and business space on both the east and west ends

of the City. He has been integral in the establishment and enforcement of laws that have made downtown Elko safer and cleaner. His steadfast insistence for the installation of sidewalks where they have been ignored in the past makes our community safer for pedestrians. Bicycles can travel on newly designated pathways, and the city's park systems have been enhanced under his watch. He oversaw the reconstruction of Idaho Street and and continued development in Elko's downtown central business district. Other accomplishments include the establishment of the city's Downtown Redevelopment District, the Arts and Cultural Advisory Committee, and in securing a permanent site for the Elko Boys and Girls Club. He championed an ordinance that provides protection from human trafficking to women working in Elko's legal brothels, and worked to establish legal ma*****na dispensaries within the city. His progressive ideology has had a profound effect on the quality of life in Elko.
