Troop 618 congratulates its newest Eagle Scouts. L-R Brandon W., Mark B., Timothy P., and Michael B. All four Eagle Scouts started together as Cub Scouts in Pack 618 and although some achieved Eagle Scout earlier they all wanted to celebrate their Court of Honor together. This is truly scouting at its best! Congratulations! Once an Eagle Scout, Always an Eagle Scout.

On August 23rd Boy Scout Troop 618 went on a tour of the GM engine plants 1 and 5 in Tonawanda that was celebrating its 75th Anniversary. They saw robotic arms zooming over their heads carrying 100 pound engine blocks. They saw robots that could build part of an engine that included 48 individual pieces in 40 seconds! They watched the whole process from start to finish. The scouts had a great time.

Troop 618 participated in Bison's Scout Night on May 3. Bison's went for 11 innings and WON! Couldn't have asked for a better weather night for camping on the in-field. At midnight, the Scouts watched Avengers movie on the JumboTron and woke up to a breakfast of donuts and chocolate milk on Saturday. Great fun and even better than that, the Bison's won. Let's go Buffalo!

On April 19th, 20th, and 21st Boy Scout Troop 618 went camping at Camp Stone Haven in Ransomville NY. While they were there they worked on the Search and Rescue Merit Badge. They practiced by searching for Bob the Builder. By the end of the campout they were almost finished with the Merit Badge. Multiple guest speakers talked about search and rescue and there was a demonstration by a K-9 unit. The Scouts stayed optimistic despite there was rain and copious quantities of mud to walk in.

On the weekend of March 8th Boy Scout Troop 618 went camping at Camp Scouthaven near Arcade NY. While they were there they went on a 3-mile hike, learned First Aid skills, and played in the snow. They also helped to collect sap from maple trees that the camp ranger would boil into maple syrup. Did you know that it takes 40-gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup.

February 16th, Boy Scout Troop 618 stayed overnight at Beaver Meadow Audobon Center. We worked on the Astronomy Merit Badge, took a hike, played games and camped inside the lodge.
We were hoping to do some snow-shoeing but believe it or not we didn't have enough snow! Beaver Meadow has ponds, wetlands with a boardwalk trail, meadows, and eight miles of marked and groomed trails. Beaver Meadows is a great place to go during any season.

Can you have fun at a winter event?
The Boy Scouts just came back from the GNFC Klondike at Camp Shoellkopf. There was no snow there was mud, big fires, fun, and lots of scout spirit.
The troop competed in 13 out of 15 activities. The activities the troop participated in were: boiling water in a plastic bottle, making a compass, knocking an apple of a dummy's head, tug of war, memory games, a log drag, a Snowshoe race (aka. Mudshoe) balancing as many scouts as possible on a 12" stump, football toss, Klondike sled sprint,First Aid, and an adult cooking contest. The theme at the Klondike was Mythbusters.

Jake Kaminski, 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist in Archery, visited the scouts in Troop 618 on December 13th. Jake did a demonstration with his Olympic bow and arrows, hitting the target's bull's eye on
every shot! Afterwards, he signed autographs. Some scouts in the troop had earned their archery merit badges at summer camp so it was really cool to see an Olympian who excelled in the sport winning a silver medal. He proudly showed his Silver Medal Award to the scouts and let them feel how heavy it was. Thanks Jake!

Hi! MISSING DOG! Please keep an eye out for this fearful girl, lost from Clinton in Marilla last week and seen yesterday on Jamison in Elma/Marilla. She is VERY fearful and cannot be approached. She also needs daily seizure meds. Please call the number on the flyer with any sightings. Thank you!!
I ran into these young men in Bath, NY at the Burger King today. I was just going in to grab a quick lunch coming home from work. When I walked in and there were 20 "kids" and 4 troop leaders in front of me you can imagine I sighed in with a little frustration. I realized very quickly that this was going to be OK. The troop leaders let me cut in line, the boys were respectful, clear and concise when ordering and so well behaved that the servers and the back line people were not even sweating the large crowd. The dinning room was nowhere near as loud and chaotic as a normal lunch crowd.....Good job fellas. You set a great example that everyone should follow!.....just an old Marine that noticed.
The Great Lakes Beach Sweep will be September 16th this year. Here is the press release for your troop as they helped last year: Calling volunteers of all ages! The 2017 International Coastal Cleanup Day is September 16th. This year will mark the 32nd year the Northeast Chapter of the American Littoral Society and The Great Lakes Beach has organized, supported and funded New York’s participation in this important annual event. This cleanup is the largest volunteer environmental project in the world with 92 countries participating on the same day. The cleanup base site in Western New York is Woodlawn Beach located on Route 5 in Hamburg, New York. The Lake Erie Cleanup is from 10:00 am to noon. There are many other sites in the area, check the American Littoral Society website for locations throughout New York State. During the 2016 New York State Beach Cleanup 6,645 volunteers removed 66,830 pounds of debris from over 230 miles of shoreline. Though these numbers are impressive, we hope to increase participation and reach out to new groups, counties, schools and organizations. Come out and help mother nature and pick up and log what’s washing up on our beaches, rivers and creeks.
