I need to address something very important.

Allen Parish and Jeff Davis are currently under a burn ban.

Over the weekend we responded to numerous fires. Yesterday we had several more. Today, we’ve already handled additional calls. The conditions right now are extremely dangerous:

• Very dry ground
• Very low humidity
• High wind gusts

Those three factors together are a perfect recipe for fires getting out of control quickly.

Please understand this clearly. When a burn ban is in place, your chances of being held civilly liable for damages and fire department expenses increase significantly. This is not the time to burn anything.

Be smart. Do not burn right now.

Also, a quick word about emergency response.

There will always be debates about how fast firefighters, police officers, and ambulance drivers respond. When we’re not coming to your emergency, it may seem too fast or inconvenient. But when you or your loved one calls 911, it never feels fast enough.

We train for hours every year in advanced defensive and emergency vehicle operations. Our drivers are trained to respond in the quickest and safest manner possible.

When you see emergency lights behind you:

Do not slam on your brakes.
Do not move to the left shoulder.
Get to the right side of the road and slow down.

Yield to emergency vehicles. Move right. Slow down. Let us get where we need to go safely.

Help us protect you, your family, and our community.

🚨 BURN BAN NOW IN EFFECT — JEFFERSON DAVIS PARISH 🚨
The Jefferson Davis Parish Police Jury has officially issued a parish-wide burn ban, effective immediately.
🚫 Open burning is strictly prohibited, including:
Trash burning
Brush piles
Debris burns
This ban will remain in place until further notice.
🔥 Exception: Properly authorized and supervised agricultural burns are still permitted.
Dry conditions increase wildfire risk, so please use caution and do your part to keep our community safe. Updates will be provided as soon as the ban is lifted.
Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to safety.

We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Raw Construction for aiding the fire department in cutting low-hanging limbs throughout the district. Most of these limbs impeded access for fire engines and school buses. Raw Construction LLC generously provided a crew and machinery at no expense to the taxpayers.
