Today, our students begin a new year filled with opportunities to learn, grow and dream big.

As the wife of an educator and mom of a high schooler, I understand the dedication that goes into preparing for this day. Thank you to our parents, teachers, paraeducators, bus drivers, administrators, cafeteria workers, custodians, school nurses, office professionals and every employee who helps our children succeed.

I am especially proud to begin this school year with the endorsement of the Teachers Association of Baltimore County—TABCO. I will continue advocating for safe, inclusive schools, competitive compensation, manageable workloads and the resources educators need to serve every child.

Wishing our students, families and school employees a safe, successful and inspiring school year!

🧐 CONTINUES: WHO IS ACTUALLY IN CHARGE? 🕵🏻‍♀️

According to The Baltimore Sun:

“Legislation pending before the County Council also aims to clarify that the office can continue issuing public reports without a permanent inspector general in place. The council will discuss the measure at work sessions on Sept. 1 and Sept. 15, with a vote expected Sept. 21.”

That raises more questions than it answers.

The permanent Inspector General position is vacant. The former Deputy Inspector General retired. Gregg Domroe, who had been leading the office, resigned effective August 21, but reportedly agreed to remain temporarily and part-time to assist with recruitment and provide continuity.

So who is currently directing investigations, supervising employees and authorizing the Office’s official actions?

On August 11, 2026, just days before Domroe’s departure, the Office enacted updated policies and procedures.

An independent watchdog cannot operate under a cloud of uncertainty about who is exercising its legal authority. Baltimore County needs more than assurances that the Office “continues to operate.” The public deserves a named leader, a transparent chain of command and an explanation of who is accountable for its decisions.

This is exactly why we need structural independence, safeguards during vacancies and an Inspector General Appointment Board.

The watchdog cannot be left without a clearly identified watchdog.

It is time for a watchdog (a pretty poodle 💙💛🐩) on the Council that will Elevate the Office of the Inspector General.

💰➡️UPDATE: Baltimore County Business Development and Retention Corporation ⬅️💸

Legislation for a Baltimore County non-profit economic development entity has been withdrawn. After asking three councilmen and the business community, I was prepared to testify about the proposal and the importance of a careful, transparent review of a new entity before decisions are made.

With a lame duck Administration, I believe major legislation of this nature should wait until the next County Executive and Council can provide an assessment.

However, I appreciate the work of the Economic Development Advisory Board and staff. Based on the findings, I will continue to work closely with economic development leaders for a holistic plan to spur the economy in East Baltimore County and beyond. Baltimore County is part of a region not by itself.
