In cooperation with Eugene Springfield Fire the Skinner Butte parking lot and summit road will be closed until sometime in October. There has been a history of illegal firework activity and brush fires, particularly during the summer season. Closing this area to vehicles helps reduce that risk.

The summit will remain accessible to pedestrians and cyclists (no e-motorcycles) by numerous trails and the paved road that leads to the summit.

This week is National Public Works Week, so Eugene Public Works is sharing a video series highlighting the countless—but sometimes unseen—ways Public Works touches the lives of area residents every day. Our work is largely behind the scenes, but everything we do is in support of livability for our community.

Today we are shining the spotlight on our Parks & Open Space, City of Eugene Government division and our Urban Forestry team. We have dozens of parks and natural areas throughout the city that greatly enhance the beauty and appeal of Eugene. Even in urban areas, our canopy of street trees is stewarded by a dedicated team and is constantly expanding. Learn more about this vital division today.
