NAME OUR NEW STADIUM: Thanks to all who participated in earlier surveys to help us name our new stadium located on the SW corner of Farwell & Market in the town of Mead. The building of this stadium was approved by voters in February 2018 and, beginning in the fall, this new facility will host home football games and soccer matches, as well as Marching Band activities and competitions, for both Mt. Spokane and Mead High.

We've narrowed the name for the new venue down to the following three options: Market Street Stadium - Bell Stadium - Union Stadium

Click the link provided to vote for your favorite. The survey closes May 17 @ midnight. https://forms.gle/MZ4fBw3BcFABrWDQ7

IMPORTANT GRADUATION INFO!

Parents and Guardians,

Thank you for all the effort everyone is putting in to helping our students stay on track with their learning through online resources, printed resources, or a combination of both. I recognize this is not easy to do from home, and your work within our continuous learning plan is greatly appreciated. If access to an additional Chromebook or help with obtaining internet access would increase your ability to participate with our online resources, please let your child’s teacher or principal know, or call our information line at 509-559-4580 so arrangements can be made.

As a school district a core aspect of our mission is to ensure our students graduate with options for post-secondary education, careers, and civic engagement. Our Capstone ceremony and graduations for Three Springs High School and Cheney High School are three of my favorite events of the entire year. These events provide our families, staff, and community the opportunity to celebrate the many accomplishments of our seniors, and the culmination of their high school careers.

Following the announcement of the tentative plan for re-opening Washington state it became clear we would not be able to hold our traditional graduation ceremonies as scheduled. While this is sad news, we are committed to providing our seniors with a non-traditional graduation that provides the recognition their accomplishments deserve, and is memorable for everyone.

The current idea proposed by Cheney High School includes a “drive-in” style ceremony with a stage and large screen which families can attend in their vehicles. CHS seniors would form a line around the event, following social distancing guidelines, and have their names called as they walk across the stage to receive their diplomas. The ceremony would be broadcast over a radio channel so that families could listen to the entire event in their vehicles. Three Springs High School is also considering a non-traditional drive-thru ceremony at the Nike Site that would be broadcast on a radio station for families and community members as well.

Recently we received guidance stating districts must submit their graduation plans to the regional health department for review and then to the Governor’s office for final consideration and approval. Once we receive a response from the Governor’s office and are able to finalize plans we will share specific information and details related to each of our graduation ceremonies. As always, please reach out to our administrative teams at Cheney High School at (509-559-4001) or Three Springs High School at (509-559-4591) if you have any questions.

In closing, I would like to recognize all of the mothers in our amazing community and hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable Mother’s Day weekend.

Take care,

US/WE/TOGETHER

Happy Friday MLSD Families!

We want to take one more opportunity to say thank you to all of our teachers during this teacher appreciation week for what they do each and every day to support our students. We also want to thank all of the parents and guardians for their work as well as we continue to learn from a distance.

This week we are sharing our Continued Learning Plan that we will submit to our school board as well as OSPI (our state education office). This plan is organized by school so parents can simply reference the schools specific to their children. We also want to note that our plan prioritizes the importance of mental wellness for all of our community members which is why you see it discussed at the beginning. We know this situation is difficult for all of our community members and especially our children and emotional support remains the primary focus of our work. To view our plan, please click on the SMORE link below.

Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. Each of our buildings is monitoring their phones and you can also contact us at [email protected].

Together we are stronger,

Parents and Guardians,

I want to thank each of our families for all of your support as we temporarily shift from a traditional learning model to our current “Continuous Learning” format. As we began the process of providing academic support outside of our schools and classrooms we did so with the mantra, “get started and get better”. Although we are still learning, I know we are making progress each and every day. Attached to this email is a link to our district’s “Continuous Learning” document. This document contains important information and describes our current plan for providing academic and instructional support for our students and families.

In recent days we have spent a considerable amount of time working through issues related to grades, credits, and graduation requirements for high school students. As a district we are prepared to share important information in these areas, but are awaiting final guidance from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) before doing so. We expect to receive this guidance in the coming days and then will provide specific information to our families as soon as possible.

I appreciate your patience as we continue to work through the many issues associated with the statewide school closure. I am also extremely appreciative of the hard work and dedication of our staff members and the amazing support we have received from our families and community.

If you have any questions about “Continuous Learning” in Cheney Public Schools, please call our parent information line at 509-559-4580, email us at [email protected], or email me directly.

Take care and have a great evening!
US/WE/TOGETHER.
