In the late 1950's, the Northern Virginia Planning District Commission and a group of citizens from several local jurisdictions came together to protect Northern Virginia's rich heritage of woods, meadows, lakes and streams from the threat of suburban sprawl. These citizens, working with their local governments--Fairfax County, Arlington County and the City of Falls Church--organized under the Virginia Park Authorities Act in 1959 as the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority (NVRPA). They came together to plan, acquire develop and operate a system of regional parks for all Northern Virginians to enjoy. Today, NOVA Parks (as the organization came to be known in 2014) represents three counties and three cities -- Arlington County, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, the City of Alexandria, the City of Falls Church and the City of Fairfax. NOVA Parks staff, volunteer board members appointed from each jurisdiction and many friends of the regional parks working together have preserved over 12,000 acres of the rolling and wooded Virginia countryside for you and created a priceless legacy for future generations. Through your regional parks, the NOVA Parks provides almost two million citizens with some of the finest recreational facilities in the country. By pooling their funds, these local governments find that each dollar they contribute to NOVA Parks is multiplied by contributions from other member jurisdictions and sometimes augmented even more by state and federal grants and private donations. Being a member of NOVA Parks is a good economic investment.

Thank you Troop 889 from Lorton, VA! What a great job!

On behalf of Pohick Bay Regional Park we would like to extend a big thank you to the scouts and volunteers of Troop 899 from Lorton, Virginia.

Today they made a huge impact on one of the largest sections of invasive plants here in the park known as Kudzu. The pictures shown here are of the before and after results of todays removal effort!

If you have interest in helping reduce the spread of invasive plants or service projects that give back to the park please reach out to us at [email protected].

Thanks again Troop 899 for your amazing work!

Thank you Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy!

On Wednesday we hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Harrison St. Pollinator Meadow along the W&OD Trail for our newly installed interpretive panels. We encourage you to visit the meadow, and we hope you'll be inspired to create pollinator habitat in your yard or open space. Currently asters are still blooming, and there were numerous bees, butterflies, and other pollinators utilizing the meadow.

We want to thank everyone who has made this project possible - NOVA Parks for being a tremendous partner, Leesburg GardenClub for funding the installation of the interpretive panels, Manuel Rivas of Northern Virginia Property Services for assisting with maintenance and installing the panels, Pulse Design for fabricating beautiful signage, Susan Abraham for her advice and wisdom on creating meadows, Watermark Woods - Native Plants and Earth Sangha for providing discounts on native plants, and the many hours of volunteers - Ann G., Carol, Ling, Fred, and others who have brought this meadow to life!

We also want to thank Mayor Kelly Burk, Leesburg, Council Member Neil Steinberg, and Supervisor Kristen Umstattd, Leesburg for celebrating this achievement with us!

Are there open grills at the parks, or are they only collocated with pavilions that require reservations?
Nearly 2,000 young people marched yesterday at Algonkian Regional Park for Black Lives Matters. It was a peaceful expression of first amendment rights.
Thank you NOVA Parks employees for keeping your cool in a stressful time. Your patience with people's impatience is amazing!
Fountainhead’s mini golf course was plowed over? what a bummer man, I was here six months ago and it was wonderful to see how time affected it. You could have fixed it up or made it a historical landmark, but now it’s just a meaningless hillside ☹️😢
Open your boat ramps.
What purpose is there in closing all the ramps but allowing hiking trails and biking trails to remain open? Open the ramps back up to allow us to get out on the water. And FYI, I think everyone that has paid for an annual launch pass should be refunded a portion or extended because you're taken away a service we've paid for.
If your child is registered for spring sport will that be cancelled due to the virus outbreak?
Sunday 10-27 Brambleton Golf Course closed knowing the weather was going to clear by 12:30pm. very disappointed with such a decision. Will now rethink playing NoVa courses in the future as they continue to pose problems for more serious players. This isnt the first time Brambleton has closed on a whim.
