CA Descano joined colleagues across the country on this letter to Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas of the Department of Homeland Security urging DHS to stop partnering with local law enforcement to enforce federal immigration laws. This comes on the heels of the office's Trust Policy, codifying that prosecutors in our office will not aid ICE in civil immigration enforcement. When immigrants feel targeted, instead of protected, by local law enforcement we are all less safe.

"Local police need to prioritize local safety, rather than sacrificing community safety to become pawns of federal immigration policy."

Today, 48 elected prosecutors signed a joint letter sent from The Law Enforcement Action Partnership to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas urging the administration to end programs that use local law enforcement to conduct federal immigration enforcement. Local involvement in immigration issues threatens public safety by exacerbating fear within immigrant communities, making them less likely to report crimes and cooperate with officials.
