The Higher Education Program prepares new and mid-level professionals for careers in higher education at community colleges and 4-year institutions, as well as in associations, government agencies, and industries whose activities relate to or impact higher education. The program provides grounding in the principles and practices of higher education. It strives to produce informed and reflective practitioners and researchers who are knowledgeable about current best practices and flexible enough to adapt to new situations.

The George Mason University, School of Integrative Studies, is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person for a Bachelor of Individualized Study (BIS) part-time advising position. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason’s academic and culturally inclusive environment.
The School of Integrative Studies is committed to integrating interdisciplinary knowledge with lifelong learning by offering experiential, hands-on learning that connects the classroom to the world.
Responsibilities:
• Advise Bachelor of Individualized Studies (BIS) students on academic issues toward degree completion;
• Provide administrative support for other BIS student services activities, such as program development and recruitment and orientation.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Experience with university-level academic advising, especially in working directly with students to provide information, answer questions, provide guidance, and advise formally and informally.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge with Degree Works (Ellucian based degree progress platform) and Student Success Collaborative.
Hours:
• 20 - 25 hours per week, flexible scheduling

What could I, a first year grad student and new professional in this field, possibly have to say that would be useful or interesting for attendees at an international conference?” In retrospect, I understand that while this is a common first reaction to the idea of presenting at a conference, it was magnified by imposter syndrome."
