Good news: A group of young Congolese developers came together to build a platform that allows for people to subscribe to SMS notification and contact tracing. They worked hours and at times did not sleep to get this going.

They did it because they love their country and they want to make sure that as techies, they contribute to halting the spread of #Covid19 in the Congo.

Today is the official launch of https://covid-19info.cd , a site built by Congolese for Congolese with the support of allies who believe in them.

For my developer friends, we need your support in contributing to the code. We need all the support we can get to make it more robust.

Backend: https://github.com/devscast/covid19-backend

Client: https://github.com/devscast/covid19-client

SMS notifier: https://github.com/devscast/covid19-notifier

Together we can stop the spread of the virus. Very happy and proud to support this initiative as it demonstrates what we can do when we work together!

Big up to Patricia Lokwa Servant and Congo Love for connecting me to these amazing talents in the Congo.

Congratulations Itot Africa for this huge milestone. The Congolese people are forever thankful for your contribution!

In addition to showcasing sustainable technologies, the 11th STAR-TIDES Technology Demonstration will also honor the late Lois Clark McCoy (1920-2016), founder of the National Institute for Urban Search and Rescue (NIUSR).

Her commitment to citizen preparedness, emergency management, disaster relief, and her knack for collecting people who did extraordinary things inspired legions of followers across generations.

Her signature exhortation: "Press On!" epitomizes her spirit and determination.

Last year we reported on Big Delta, a large 3D printer that showed promise as a method of creating low-cost housing by using mud or clay as a building material. Italy's WASP appears to be making good on that promise with a new shelter that's cost just €48 to build so far.

The government asked innovators to combat Zika. Nearly 900 responded to the call.-- The call for applications was broad and immediate: As the Zika virus was spreading throughout the Americas, the U.S. Agency for International Development wanted innovators with bold solutions to step forward. Nearly 900 did so, and officials winnowed them down to 21 of the most promising ideas Wednesday. By Steven Overly
