MarCom Group was founded in 1996 as a woman-owned small business based in Fairfax, Virginia.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) wanted to highlight the significant discoveries and accomplishments of their 17 national research laboratories and illustrate the impact their scientific achievements had on American life. A coffee-table style book seemed the perfect solution.
The DOE had a list of topics to guide development but no existing content and the deadline for delivery to the printer for the completed book was only six weeks away.
MarCom Group rose to the challenge. We assembled an experienced team of 30 editors, writers, designers, photographers, illustrators, graphic artists, and support staff to design and produce a 150+ page glossy, artistic, oversized compendium of 37 stories: A Decade of Discovery.
Stories highlighted, among other things, achievements in renewable energy and energy management, practical medical applications of discoveries in particle physics; the development of shale fracturing technology the led to the natural gas boom that has contributed to the nation’s energy independence; and planning for a pandemic.
We also designed and produced promotional materials and a website to introduce the book at planned media events, press conferences, and satellite video feeds around the country and in the United Kingdom.
The book was delivered on time and below budget and generated an enthusiastic response from DOE, their laboratory scientists, business and industry leaders, educators, and the general public. See more at

There’s making the trains run on time, and then there’s making the trains run on time, perform at peak efficiency, stop on a dime, and provide a boost to morale to all involved for a job well done. That’s Rhonda Reives, MarCom Group’s Traffic and Production Manager. Rhonda brings years of broadcasting experience to the role but also an infectious smile and a can-do attitude that doesn’t know when to quit. She’s a wiz at building teams, processes and procedures, and finds immense pride and satisfaction in doing it. The thing that brings Rhonda the most joy in life is bringing joy to others, which, as all of us at MarCom Group can attest, she does with ease.
The only thing that’ll outlast their many achievements are the friendships they’ve made.
After a quarter-century of helping MarCom Group reach the very pinnacle of success, Bob and Chris Boffi have more than earned the opportunity to savor the view at the top. Join all of us in wishing them both a joyous and happy retirement.
Bob Boffi began at MarCom Group in 1998, Chris Boffi, a year later. The husband-and-wife team had become close friends with Debbie and Bob Rainford—MarCom Group’s President and Owner, and CEO and Chief Creative Officer respectively—after the two Bob’s worked together in a previous career.
Initially, Bob had no title because no single title could pin down the myriad of contributions he was making across the entire agency, while Chris was brought on as the agency’s Human Resources Manager. However, it wasn’t long before Bob, through his innate business acumen, creativity, and knack for unconventional thinking, earned the title of Chief Operating Officer.
Together, the Boffis played key roles in not only helping MarCom Group weather economic challenges like the attacks of 9-11, the bursting of both the tech and housing bubbles, the Great Recession, and the COVID lockdowns that led to the demise of many agencies, they helped the agency emerge even stronger and more resilient than ever.
Yet, amid all the business successes, it’s the relationships they’ve built along the way the Boffi’s say they’ll miss most of all. And we couldn’t agree more.
Of the numerous contributions the Boffis have made to MarCom Group’s success, nothing could ever top the friendships and memories they’ll leave behind.
Please join us in wishing them both a fond farewell and following seas wherever their journey may take them.
This is the season the big color houses release their predictions for the coming year. Not to be outdone, MarCom Group presents its own offering: “MarCom Chromatic,” a tasteful yet dramatic blending of MarCom Group's official color pallet of light blue, dark blue, purple, red, dark grey (almost black), creating an evocative, undulating, and somewhat memorizing tapestry that cuts straight through the clutter, never assuming the same hue twice.
As MarCom Group celebrates its 26th anniversary, here are some of the observations we’ve made along the way:
From the birth of Google to the advent of platforms like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram, MarCom Group has enjoyed a front-row seat to it all. When the age of sharing emerged, we had a lot to share of our own with new campaigns and clients we never tire of promoting. We were there for the invention of the hashtag, #WeWereThere! We were there for Big Data’s big bang, the day when digital content surpassed traditional media like books and magazines, and the day we discovered that Big Data meant even bigger opportunity. We were there when the Dot-com and Housing bubbles both burst. Happy to say, we emerged more resilient and stronger than ever. We were in the delivery room when the SmartPhone was born, and still have the Blackberries to show for it. Twenty-six times around the sun. It’s been a fantastic journey. The best is yet to come!
