There will be a Moonlight ride on the Shining Sea Bikeway on Friday 11/19/21. This will be the Full Beaver Moon. There is disagreement over the origin of November's beaver moon name. Some say it comes from Native Americans setting beaver traps during this month, while others say the name comes from the heavy activity of beavers building their winter dams. Another name is the frost moon. Moonrise is at 5:49PM so we should see the moon during the entire ride. Fall nights are wonderful riding as the cooler weather makes for less humid air. Hope to see you there...

The Details:
Date: Friday 11/19/21.
Location: Shining Sea Bikeway in N. Falmouth, MA.
Set you GPS to 13 County Rd. N. Falmouth, MA
Time:
Arrive: 5:45PM
Departure: 6:00PM promptly
Sunset: 4:21PM
Moonrise: 5:49PM
Name: Full Beaver Moon

Directions:
Take I-195 E to exit 40A.
Rt 25 E over the Bourne Bridge.
At the rotary follow the signs for Rt 28 E Falmouth.
At the second rotary follow the signs for Rt 28 E Falmouth.
Exit on Rt. 151.
Take a left off of the exit.
Go straight through the light.
Cross over the Railroad tracks and take the next right into the parking lot.

Rain cancels the ride.

As this ride is entirely on the bike path it is appropriate for anyone who is comfortable with riding at night. The plan is to ride all the way to Woods Hole and back. If someone is tired they can simply turn around and return to their car.

Distance is 20 miles round trip.

Bikes should have adequate lighting.
If you have a second headlight as a backup that might come in handy if the first one goes out.
Bring water, snacks, cameras and anything else you might want or need.
Helmets are highly recommended.

Take note that it is cooler after sunset and dress accordingly. Dress warmly!

Have you gotten any news on the opening of the bike path extension in Mattapoisett?

On the #BayStateBikeMonth events list we found a nice ride last Sunday along the South Coast Bikeway spanning the “Blue Lane” path on the New Bedford peninsula and the Fairhaven Bikeway Committee. Highlights include watching the New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge swing open, riding on top of a sea wall, and riding along a nice stretch of beach. I was impressed by the South Coast Bikeway coordination and look forward to Belmont making similar connections along the Mass Central Rail Trail.
Do we know if the frost heave bumpss and splits/ cracks along the path will be repaired this season? Is it something we need to raise money for?
I know this is late but I just got access to this page. Check back or follow this site to be informed about our local rides.
