Today I submitted notice to the Board of Elections to withdraw as a candidate from the upcoming Municipal Election. Over the past 8 years I have been honored to serve, and fortunate to meet and assist so many really good and kind people throughout the city of Fall River. I am incredibly appreciative of everyone who has supported me, and I look forward to watching this new chapter of our city continue to grow as a constituent. Good luck to all the candidates in November!

My full candidate statement for the Herald News:

I have had the honor of serving on the Fall River City Council for 4 terms. I am so appreciative of your continued trust in me to hold this position. I chose to move to Fall River, and I am proud to live here. My twin girls are juniors at Durfee, and my son is in the 8th grade at Morton Middle School.

Governing, and living in a city, comes with the inherent issues of crime, homelessness, and residents in need of services and low-income housing. It is so important that continually working to lessen crime, and assisting our residents in need with the utmost compassion, remain at the top of our priorities, while still striving to elevate our city in other areas. Attracting new businesses, improving our infrastructure, promoting all there is to do and see for residents and visitors, and modernizing accessibility to our city services also need to be priorities. We need to address the good and the bad, as they both affect our quality of life in Fall River. We need to do this consistently and simultaneously in order to grow.

Each year that I have served my approach has remained the same; ask questions, verify answers, and vote for what is in the best interest of the residents and businesses in the City of Fall River. And as challenging as politics can be, I am able to agree to disagree with respect. Collaboration and communication will always get us further.

As a public servant, I am available to help any resident or business with questions or concerns. Constituent services continue to be my favorite part of this job. The ability to make a difference in the life of those who live and work here is the reason I love what I do.

I respectfully ask for your vote on Preliminary Election Day, Tuesday, September 19th, and on Election Day, Tuesday, November 7th. Thank you.

Lest we Forget

Officer Thomas J. Giunta,
End of Watch: Wednesday, August 24, 1994

Officer Thomas Giunta was shot and killed as he was distributing parking permits for a community function.

When he knocked on the door of the suspect's house, the suspect answered and a struggle ensued. The suspect wrestled Patrolman Giunta's weapon away from him and then shot him three times. He was subdued moments later by other officers on the scene. A citizen kept Patrolman Giunta alive long enough to get to the hospital by giving him CPR. Patrolman Giunta later died at the hospital.

The suspect was found competent to stand trial and was ultimately found guilty of first degree murder by extreme atrocity. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole on May 29th, 1998.

14 August 1965: BIG MAMIE comes Home.

After an amazing effort by school children, veterans, civic leaders, and the support of Narragansett Brewery, USS Massachusetts BB-59 comes home for good to the state that built her and the people who love her.

BIG MAMIE is the only battleship to be named for, built, and preserved in her home state but she helps represent everyone in New England and the fighting spirit of the United States during World War II.

Battleship Massachusetts is undergoing repairs and enhancements to support the long term preservation of this memorial. Please pardon our appearance when you visit. We promise that major efforts are planned and being executed for this amazing ship.

Thanks to BIG MAMIE supporter Bill Soares for reminding us of this photo as we near the homecoming anniversary date!

*Improvements continue to be made throughout the city! ♥️
— Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (Blue Cross), Fall River, and National Fitness Campaign (NFC) today announced a partnership to bring an outdoor Fitness Court® to Fall River. The Fitness Court, located at Britland Park on 73 Wordell St., will open August 8th at 10 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

This Fitness Court was developed by Blue Cross, Fall River and NFC to expand free access to high quality workouts and create equitable access to exercise for communities around the state. The Fitness Court is the world’s best outdoor gym that lets people use their own body weight to get a complete workout using seven exercise stations.

Created with people aged 14 and over and with all abilities in mind, the workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users also may download the free Fitness Court App which acts as a coach-in-your-pocket and enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience.
