Spread the word to the kids in your life! Together with Viva Fall River, we announced another art contest for Fall River’s K-12 students. We want to hear what most matters to kids in the City of Fall River. Entries will be displayed at the City Hall atrium for our big "Thanksmas" event with Viva Fall River on November 13th.

Fall River's superintendent immigrated here for the American Dream. She got that and more.

“I do try to remember that every person I work alongside is also a human,” she said. “There’s a person behind that title.” Maria said so many quote worthy things in this interview it was hard to choose just one!

In Interim Superintendent of Schools Maria Pontes, the Fall River district has a life-long educator with 36 years of experience at the helm.

"Photographer: Ok, take your mask off.

Mason: My mom said to keep it on all the time unless I'm eating and far away from everybody.

Photographer: I'm sure it's ok to take it off for your pictures.

Mason: No, my mom seriously told me to make sure to keep it on.

Photographer: Are you sure you don't want to take it off for 2 seconds?

Mason: No, thank you. I always listen to my mom!

Photographer: Ok, say cheese!

I'm so proud of him for sticking to his word, but I should have been more clear about my rules on this day. 😂"

I love this post! My very wise mother often says to me, “Kate, remember that everyone’s doing the best they can.”

As we look toward Tuesday and the start of the year, my goal is to bring grace for others and myself into all my interactions.

ETA: I’m Kate McGraw, VP of Communucations for the FREA. While I’m not the only administrator on our FREA FB page, I do make most of the posts. Thanks a whole bunch to my very helpful and techy friend who knew this post was me and told me it didn’t have my name attached! 🤦🏼‍♀️ Learning as I go!

It’s August and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying summer and slowly preparing for returning in September. I’ve made a big change this school year. After 8 years as a literacy coach, I’m returning to the classroom! It’s had me busy making and preparing what I need to open my room this Fall. There’s a real difference between when I first did it to now, and it’s got me thinking about all the first time teachers making their way toward September. Ive attached some files to share with a new teacher if you know one. Feel free to add your own in the comments.
