Challenge Accepted!!

The George and Marie Chabot Foundation's Trustees have issued us a challenge that will provide $150,000.00 to our St Josephs House Shelter in Hyannis; but we must raise the first $30,000.00 by December 31, 2022! St. Joseph's House Shelter provides emergency shelter for hundreds of homeless men and women each year as well as Day Programs that offer respite from the streets, resources, skill-building activities and support.

These funds will help strengthen the St Joseph's House services, improving staffing, equipment, furnishings, and support of the Winter Overflow response. This will provide additional emergency shelter beds on evenings that are 28 degrees or below.

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas today announced the extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti for an additional 18 months, from February 4, 2023, through August 3, 2024, due to extraordinary and temporary conditions in Haiti. He also redesignated Haiti for TPS, allowing Haitian nationals residing in the United States as of November 6, 2022, to apply for TPS through August 3, 2024, so long as they meet all eligibility requirements. It is important to note that Haitians entering the United States after November 6, 2022, are not eligible for TPS and, like other individuals without a legal basis to remain in the United States, will be subject to removal. To repeat: Haitians entering the United States after November 6, 2022, including those who might be considering entering now, are not eligible for TPS.

On Nov. 15, U.S. District Court Judge Emmet G. Sullivan issued a decision ending the use of the Title 42 health policy to expel migrants rapidly at the U.S. border. Title 42 of the Public Health Services Act is a public health authority that authorizes the Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to suspend entry of individuals into the U.S. to protect public health. Since the Trump administration, the use of Title 42 has denied about a million people the legal right to seek asylum. The Biden administration will now prepare to end expulsions by Dec. 21, 2022, and process asylum seekers under the long-standing legal pathways required by international law.

Attention DACA recipients! On Monday, October 31st, DHS’s final rule to preserve and fortify DACA officially went into effect. USCIS will continue to accept and process applications for deferred action, work authorization, and advance parole for CURRENT recipients. However, new DACA requests cannot be processed because a court case about DACA’s future is still ongoing. DACA is not just about giving an opportunity to educated young people who have been in the US since they were children, it also plays an important role in protecting our economy. More than 340,000 essential workers are DACA recipients, including healthcare workers and teachers!

Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

What’s the latest on DACA? On Oct. 14 a federal judge extended his order protecting hundreds of thousands of Dreamers from being deported but blocking new applicants from the program. The judge had ruled last year that DACA was unlawful, but allowed it to stay in effect during appeals. Recently, the Appeals Court sent the issue back in light of revised DACA regulations set to take effect October 31st. This means the judge will now review the program again, and, in the meantime current DACA recipients can renew their status but first-time applications cannot be decided. Catholic Social Services strongly encourages current DACA recipients to renew in a timely manner to ensure their status is sustained as long as possible.

You can find instructions, announcements, and more information at the following link: https://www.uscis.gov/DACA

Hello, I work with the Pet Food Task Force (petfoodtaskforce.org), and we have worked with 150 food pantries around MA to provide donated pet food. Our goal is to help ensure pets don't go hungry, and at the same time, ensure that families in need can feed their pets. We are looking for a couple of volunteer pet food transporters in Fall River, who would be able to move food from point a to point b in Fall River. If you are interested, please message me and I'll share the full details of the job opportunity.

Thanks!
