Today is National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. It is a day of remembrance to parents, family, and friends for pregnancy loss and infant death.
1 in 4 women will lost a baby during pregnancy, birth, or infancy.
Many families know the grief of this kind of loss. It’s often not spoken about, and yet, those who mourn often need support and understanding. The experience is painful and sometimes overwhelming.
This year, Sunstone is showing their support and hope to bring awareness to pregnancy and infancy loss, postpartum depression, and mental health for new parents by participating in Shelane's Run. If you would like to donate to our team or join us, please visit https://www.moremilesraces.com/shelanesrun

This weekend we started our involvement in these incredible walks and runs for mental health!

☀️ Shelane's Run is a 5k founded in honor of Shelane, a mom of three, who tragically took her life amid an episode of postpartum psychosis. Shelane's Run helps to raise awareness and community support for postpartum mood disorders, something that so desperately needs to be brought to the forefront during the isolation of the pandemic.

The run partner's each year with Postpartum Support VA.

The run is happening virtually this year, you can participate anytime between October 17th-31st by posting a pic of yourself and tagging @shelanesrun and @postpartumsupportva (just as @mjharfordcounseling did this weekend!)

☀️ Following in line with this, We have joined a community of people from @afsp_ncac in support of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's mission to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide.

Please help us reach our fundraising goal by donating to a team member. To donate online, please visit our page https://afsp.donordrive.com/team/263614 Once you're on their page, click "Donate Now." Donations can only be made to individuals, but the total each participant raises goes toward our team goal.

All donations will help bring AFSP one step closer to achieving their bold goal to reduce the suicide rate 20% by 2025.

☀️ We also are walking with @naminorthernva to promote awareness of mental health and reduce stigma, in this difficult year more than ever by sharing stories widely. Please support us by making a donation to our team by visiting our page https://www.namiwalks.org/team/40114

For many, thinking of someone they love ending their life or even struggling with thoughts of ending their life is horrifying. Because of this, people rarely feel comfortable talking about suicide. The stigma around mental health and suicide contributes to the neglect of discussing this important topic. Being able about to talk openly about suicide and the many ways it impacts those involved is important for preventing further suicides and ending the stigma around this topic.

During a time of isolation, the goal of this group is to empower and connect survivors of sexual assault.

This support group is for women who have experienced sexual assault within their lifetime. This group is designed to empower and highlight the specific strengths that survivors of sexual assault have and to bridge the gap of isolation during this time. We will work on processing past experiences, building coping skills, and forming relationships that will limit the feelings of isolation.

Join Skills on the Hill next Monday with our very own Jennifer Munroe Lpc! ☀️

SOTH's behavioral support group is back! We hope to see you Monday, 8/31 @ 1pm for a special presentation featuring a phenomenal guest speaker: Jennifer Munroe from Sunstone Counseling (they are amazing, check them out!). Jennifer has a depth of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults across multiple domains with a range of needs. Learn more about her here: https://www.sunstonecounselors.com/jennifermunroe/

Jennifer will be a fabulous follow up to the enormous work we did with Kirsten Bade on understanding the ABCs of behavior, managing control and implementing effective strategies to replace undesired behaviors. This fall we will continue to build on those concepts and begin digging into the psychology and underlying brain development behind the highly sensitive child and tools for parents to use in responding to emotional dysregulation and transitions. The good news is that Jennifer will make the information easy to understand and meaningful. I can't wait for this collaboration.

I hope to see you there! Please register and invite a friend! All are welcome - parents and caregivers of children of varying ability levels are encouraged to attend.

Sincerely,

Paige & SOTH Staff

There has been so much change in our world, and our little friends need space to process and gain skills in small peer groups (4-5 kids in each group). Groups will focus on how to cope with change by growing in emotional vocabulary and awareness, practicing social skills, learning breathing techniques and emotional regulation skills, and processing changes currently in their lives. Intakes will need to be completed by September 10. Please contact Lauren Stephens to find out more: [email protected]

Welcome ( Washington D.C. - USA )
Today is our graduate intern first day seeing clients. Please share her information.
I just finished this new book for the broken and brokenhearted titled "Perfect Love". Althought small in size and a quick read, it is packed with the power of Jesus. I believe Christians need the encouragement that is in this book. I encourage you to read my book and if so led, please tell others who may benefit. Be blessed! https://www.amazon.com/Perfect-Love-Battle-Broken-Brokenhearted/dp/1945698411/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1515511290&sr=8-1&keywords=perfect+love
