DMV Region – Managers and supervisors from restaurant and foodservice establishments, and members of the general public, are invited to participate in “live, in-person” Professional Food Safety Training Classes leading to Food Protection Manager Certification. One-Day English Food Safety Classes, followed immediately by administration of the Certification Exam, are now being scheduled on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday of every week from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm at ORS Interactive, Inc. in Falls Church. Upcoming classes include Monday, August 23; Wednesday, August 25; and Thursday, August 26; Monday, August 30; Wednesday, September 1; and Thursday, September 2. A One-Day Spanish Food Safety Class, followed immediately by administration of the Certification Exam, is scheduled for Saturday, August 28. For those interested, the ServSafe CourseBook is available for purchase prior to (additional shipping charges may apply), or on the day of the Class, for an additional fee of $50. A discount of 10% per person applies when 3 or more people from the same company/organization attend the same class. Discounts are also available for private groups of 10 or more. Private group classes can be taught in facilities at ORS Interactive, Inc. or on-site at restaurants, foodservice establishments, hotels or other facilities.

No advance registration is required. The first exam is available at 8:30 am and multiple testing slots are open throughout the day. COVID-19 and Food Safety Certification

Dear ORS Interactive, Inc community,

We’re contacting you because you or someone else at your establishment are currently registered as a Northern Virginia Certified Food Manager (NVCFM) through our company, ORS Interactive, Inc. We are the only provider of the NVCFM Card, and we issue the NVCFM Card through a consortium agreement with Arlington County, Fairfax County and City of Alexandria. We continue operating as an essential business and want to remind you of the continued expectations for stringent food safety practices and strict compliance during the ongoing novel coronavirus (COVID-19) public health crisis.

As you know, Health Department Regulations in Fairfax County, Arlington County and City Alexandria require ALL Licensed Food Establishments in these jurisdictions to be under the “immediate control” (defined as within arms’ reach) of a Certified Food Safety / Food Protection Manager with a Northern Virginia Certified Food Manager (NVCFM) Card during ALL hours of operation.

Licensed Food Establishments in Northern Virginia which need more Certified Food Safety / Food Protection Managers with Northern Virginia Certified Food Manager (NVCFM) Cards to cover all shifts during ALL operating hours are advised to contact ORS Interactive, Inc. - orsinteractive.com (http://www.orsinteractive.com)

If your establishment needs additional Certified Food Safety / Food Protection Managers with NVCFM Cards or if you have friends, family or colleagues working in other establishments that don’t have a sufficient number of persons with NVCFM Cards to cover all shifts during ALL operating hours, please contact us immediately. We can work with you to get more people trained, certified in ServSafe in our Proctored Testing Center (immediate test results) and in possession of NVCFM Cards as quickly as possible.

The National Restaurant Association and ServSafe have produced a nine-page booklet which provides excellent advice for reopening or maintaining foodservice establishments during and after the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) public health crisis. Copies of the booklet are available on the ORS website.

If your business is suffering from financial difficulties due to the outbreak of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), we can make special arrangements to invoice you for training, proctored testing, and certification services, as well as the cost of issuing NVCFM Cards, and then defer some or even all payments (depending on the circumstances) until after the crisis has passed and business returns to normal.

If you or your establishment’s owners and managers, for whatever reason, find you don’t have a Certified Food Safety / Food Protection Manager with a NVCFM Card who is in “immediate control” (defined as within arms’ reach) at any time during operating hours, it is imperative that you voluntarily close your establishment and reopen only when you have a Certified Food Safety / Food Protection Manager with a NVCFM Card who is in “immediate control”.
