"As we continue to follow the call to be your church, the body of Christ, in this time and place, may we seek to be reformed and always reforming, according to your Holy Word."

Today's blessing and benediction is brought to us by the Rev. Greg Allen-Pickett, Pastor and Head of Staff of First Presbyterian Church in Hastings, Nebraska.

Oct. 3 is World Communion Sunday

For you, for World Communion Sunday. With longing for the tables we will be able to return to one day, and with hope for the tables we are called to create.

AND THE TABLE WILL BE WIDE

And the table
will be wide.
And the welcome
will be wide.
And the arms
will open wide
to gather us in.
And our hearts
will open wide
to receive.

And we will come
as children who trust
there is enough.
And we will come
unhindered and free.
And our aching
will be met
with bread.
And our sorrow
will be met
with wine.

And we will open our hands
to the feast
without shame.
And we will turn
toward each other
without fear.
And we will give up
our appetite
for despair.
And we will taste
and know
of delight.

And we will become bread
for a hungering world.
And we will become drink
for those who thirst.
And the blessed
will become the blessing.
And everywhere
will be the feast.

For Those Who Volunteer in Churches
Everlasting God, strengthen and sustain all those who volunteer in our churches;
that with patience and understanding they may love and care for your people;
and grant that together they may follow Jesus Christ,
offering to you their gifts and talents;
through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Now, as the U.S. continues its evacuations of American ci...

Sing the Faith

after Robert Browning God’s in His heaven, wrote the old poet, all’s right with the world. Seems up for debate with unjust suffering so commonplace, and every day seemingly more of it. No poet, no preacher from any pulpit, could ever resolve the mystery of fate and free will, of happenstance and...

A 30-minute documentary about Will Willimon, one of the most effective preachers in ...

Living covenantally and sustainably

Living covenantally and sustainably

Living covenantally and sustainably

As a geologist, I initially felt no need to connect science with faith; I neatly compartmentalized the two, thinking that science dealt with the external, objective world while faith was concerned with an interior, spiritual world. But the search for ways of living sustainably showed me that the two...

The earth, and all that is within it, is yours, Lord God. Every creature great and small, you made and cherish them all.
