💙🐾It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of retired Cass County Deputy K-9 Zena.

K-9 Zena faithfully served alongside Corporal Chad Thompson from 2016 to 2021, dedicating her career to protecting our communities and supporting the Cass County Sheriff's Office mission. Throughout her years of service, K-9 Zena was a trusted partner, a loyal teammate, and an important member of our law enforcement family.

Second Arrest Made in Cass County Jail Narcotics Investigation

CASS COUNTY, N.D. (June 4th, 2026) – An investigation that began in April of 2024 into the suspected trafficking of a controlled substance within the Cass County Jail has resulted in a second arrest. The investigation was initiated after information was received indicating that the controlled substance was attempting to be introduced into the jail through the inmate mail system. A Cass County deputy assigned to the United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) conducted a lengthy investigation into the allegations.

In November of 2024, 32-year-old Amar Kovacevic pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Deliver or Possess with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Correctional Facility. In October of 2024, a warrant was issued for 34-year-old Daria Renville for her alleged involvement in the case. On May 13th, 2026, Renville was arrested in South Dakota and was subsequently transferred to the Cass County Jail.

Sheriff Jahner commended the collaboration between the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the USPIS Task Force, whose work was instrumental in advancing the investigation. Sheriff Jahner said, “Whether narcotics are being trafficked outside of the jail or inside of it, holding individuals accountable will always remain a top priority. When it relates to narcotics trafficking, we will always prioritize protecting not only those within our correctional system but also the safety of our entire community. This case is another example where countless hours and sustained effort paid off and eliminated anyone getting hurt.”
