I might be a bit biased but I believe Clay County has the best Veterans Service Officer in the State of Minnesota. Congratulations Curt Cannon on your well deserved 4 year reappointment and thank you for your unwavering service to our Veterans and their families.

“A life lived in service is not a sacrifice but an honor”
Queen Elizabeth II

As of the end of 2023, I have had the good fortune to represent (as an elected official) the citizens of Clay County and Oakport for 32 years.

Oakport Township March 1991 - 2002
Clay County District 4, 2002 - 2023

I am always thankful for the opportunity to work for the citizens of Clay County.

With the ongoing discussions about the redevelopment of the Moorhead Center Mall area, county officials have been contacted about the status of the Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV). Roers recently submitted a press release that stated tenants with month-to-month leases at the Moorhead Center Mall will no longer be renewed after December 31st, 2023. Clay County’s current lease runs through November of 2025. The Clay County Board of Commissioners have requested that a strategic plan be developed for a future location. The Commission has approved a pre-design study to assess options, including building a new facility or moving to an existing location. Clay County will provide additional information as it becomes available.

At todays County Board meeting Commissioner Jenny Mongeau, newly elected commissioner Paul Krabbenhoft, County Attorney Brian Melton, Sheriff Mark Empting, Highway Engineer Justin Sorum and I took our oath of office for our new terms.
In addition, I was presented with a plaque for 20 years of service by our County Board, thank you for that recognition. I am forever honored, grateful and thankful to our citizens for allowing me to represent them all these years. Now that the new 4 year term is under way it’s time to get busy working on issues important to District 4 and all of Clay County. As always, feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns or ideas you may have.

I am once again humbled and honored to serve District 4 for another 4 years. A big THANK YOU to all of you who supported and had the confidence in me to once again represent you.
Election Day Anxiety is over!
Those who were courageous enough to put your name on a ballot know Election Day is probably one of the longest days you, your family and helpful friends will experience. For a candidate, waiting for vote counts to come in is excruciating. No one on a ballot wants to be defeated, that In itself brings incredible anxiety. This year marked the 13th time my name was on either a primary or general election ballot dating back to 1993. Even with no opposition this time, the anxiety of being on the ballot was still there. I also want to congratulate and thank every candidate for the willingness and courage to put your name on a ballot to serve the people.

On this date 20 years ago the results were in.
We won in District 4!
Jerry was another one instrumental in encouraging me to run. I miss this sometimes grumpy old friend.
Thank you to of all District 4 for your support over the years. I have been honored to work for you.

Daily Throwback photo,
Looking back in time!
I owe a lot to Deputy Scott Rogers.
As Chair of the Oakport Township Board from 1993 thru 2002 I worked on many issues with Deputy Rogers including the devastating flood of 1997. Scott was one of the people who influenced me most to run for Clay County Commissioner. In those days Night to Unite was known as National Night Out. Scotty would insist that I come and speak at his home where he and his wife Kathi would host this annual neighborhood event. I owe a lot to Deputy Rogers but more importantly we all owe him for his dedicated service protecting Clay County citizens.
Sadly, Scotty’s End of Watch came unexpectedly and way to young in 2006 while in “The Line of Duty”.
I will forever be grateful to you Deputy Rogers.
