Stronger Together

Every day we stabilizes families and seniors in crisis, and stand beside them as they begin the process of removing those barriers and move forward. We provide these services with dignity and respect.

Families and seniors come to Metrocrest Services needing the most basic necessities to live, including a roof over their head, water or electricity for their home, and food to feed their family.

In 2018, we assisted 14,153 of our neighbors in need. Through our assistance with rent, utility payments, food, clothing, and much more, we truly prevent families and individuals from being homeless. Our Workforce Development provides individuals with the support for a successful job search; in the form of resume assistance and individual job leads, gasoline vouchers and bus passes. We provide programs that enable senior adults to live independently in their homes. Senior programs include transportation, home-delivered meals, minor home repair, safety installations (grab bars, etc.) and Eat Smart, Live Strong food distributions. For more information visit metrocrestservices.org or call 972-446-2100.

Normally, I do not publicly share my personal life—not with friends or anyone outside of my immediate family at that. I prefer to keep my drama, struggles and hardships to myself. But I am sharing today to give you an idea what I am asking based on my experiences. People have this interpretation that being homeless is living out in the streets, under a bridge, or out in public parks. Being homeless can also be defined by not having a permanent residence which you can call your own. At one point in my life I was a victim of homelessness. During my separation from my ex-husband, he decided to move back to California where I was left behind. That is when my life spiraled drastically, and things had gotten worse. There were days where I did not have enough food for my children or wondered if I had enough money to cover the utilities or rent. That is when I made the decision at that time to have my kids move back to California, which was a difficult decision. That is the point of time where I ended up being a statistic of homelessness—But that is enough said about my past. I know how it feels firsthand being helpless, not having food or enough money to pay the bills or worrying how will I provide for my family. This is the reason why I am very passionate about this organization, based off what I have experienced. With this pandemic and with loses of many jobs, prices of groceries have increased which has affected a lot of families. I am reaching out to my friends and family on Facebook in the Dallas/Fort Worth area or even back in the Bay Area asking if you can donate food (canned/dry food/etc.), essential items and toiletries (Shampoo/Toothpaste/Deodorant/Etc.) or even monetary donations (please see link below). Metrocrest Services provides food, essentials, and financial support to needed families and senior citizen’s seeking temporary assistance. I have partnered with Metrocrest Services and currently have a donation box placed at “Devious Dessert & Creamery’ located at 3720 N Josey Ln #104, Carrollton, TX 75007. A little goes a long way. Thank you in advance. Lorna Lusica

Al and I have had the pleasure of helping Beverly Grimsley at the Holiday Store for the past three weeks. Beverly works for Metrocrest Services and everything that happens at the Holiday Store is her responsibility. That means because of Bev and other Metrocrest Services' employees, and hundreds and hundreds of volunteers and thousands of donations, over 1,200 families and over 3,000 kids will have toys under the tree and food on the table this Christmas. Al and I are just a couple of those volunteers happy to help Bev in any way we can.
