A partial lunar eclipse is happening tonight, beginning at 7:23 p.m. For some Diné families, this is a sacred time. It is also a time to educate others about the protocols during an eclipse.

Timeline: Mountain Time
7:23 p.m. - Penumbral eclipse begins (the moon is still below the horizon).
7:31 p.m. - Moonrise in NM
8:33 p.m. - Partial eclipse begins (you will see the bite taken out of the moon).
10:12 p.m. - Maximum peak
11:51 p.m. - Partial eclipse ends
1:01 a.m. - Penumbral eclipse ends, finishing the event.

Last night was the 2026 Native American Programs Senior Reception, and our San Juan College High School students truly represented us well.

This past Friday, Amber Bizardie proudly represented our school at the Navajo Nation 2026 Seal of Bilingual Proficiency Award Ceremony in Gallup, NM. Amber achieved a Superior rating and delivered an impressive 5-minute presentation to the Department of Diné Education and Navajo Nation Vice President Richelle Montoya.

As part of this special recognition, Amber and fellow recipients were honored with Pendleton shawls/robes, a commemorative plaque, and a Galaxy tablet. During her presentation, Amber shared her talent by singing a song about the Navajo Long Walk (Hweeldi), making the moment even more meaningful and powerful.

We are also proud to share that San Juan College High School was recognized for having a student earn a Superior rating. Mrs. Simpson, our secretary, accepted this recognition on behalf of the school.

Congratulations, Amber, on this outstanding achievement and for representing your culture, language, and community with excellence!

Yay Amber!! Congratulations!!

A San Juan College High School senior has earned the Navajo Nation Seal of Bilingual Proficiency at the superior level, the highest recognition the Navajo Nation awards to students who demonstrate exceptional fluency in the Diné language.
