I am the 2021-2022 Miss Navajo Nation. I am 22 years old. My first footsteps began in Tselani/Cottonwood where my maternal grandmother and mother are from however, I have also come to call Pinon my home as well as this is where my paternal grandmother and father are from. As Miss Navajo Nation I hope to promote the preservation of our Dine ways of life, language, culture and traditions. By utilizing the concept and teachings of family unity, we can begin to harmonize our home, communities and Navajo Nation.

Last week we honored Chipeta's role in Colorado's history. This week, exactly 141 years after his death, we honor her husband, Chief Ouray of the Tabegauche Ute people.

Chief Ouray led the Ute people during the one of the most trying times in Ute history. His work in diplomacy with the U.S. government was extensive, having negotiated many treaties on behalf of the Ute people. While the American government was vigorously taking over lands all over the continent, Ouray led his people in the quickly changing American society. He undoubtedly shaped Colorado's history and personal histories of many of the Ute people.
