Virginia’s Primaries for U.S. Senate, House of Representatives, and for local offices will be held on August 4, 2026. Senator Mark Warner is running unopposed, so will not be on the primary. One of these candidates will be ousting our current representative, MAGA John McGuire.

Virginia’s primaries will be held on August 4, 2026. Early, in-person voting started Thursday, June 18, 2026, through 5:00 p.m., Saturday, August 1. The Registrar's office will be open for early voting on Saturday, July 25. Note: The P.E. Registrar’s office will be closed June 19 and July 3 for state holidays.

— That is how many religious affiliations the Defense Department now allows service members to choose from for their personnel records, down from more than 200. Among others, the list no longer includes atheist, pagan, Unitarian Universalist or Wiccan. (From the New York Times, 9 June 2026)

'In the initial release of the new list, the Pentagon designated 21 faiths as "Christian" but listed the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a standalone denomination without the "Christian" label. This prompted immediate, bipartisan backlash from Mormon lawmakers. In response, the Pentagon issued a revised list. Instead of designating only select denominations as "Christian," the Pentagon removed the "Christian" label from all listed faiths so that every recognized religion appears solely by its own name and code.' 'What A Day: The Beautiful Shame
'The World Cup is off to a rocky start, thanks to Trump. The World Cup is just the latest athletic competition that he wants to harness to boost his prestige. Instead, these spectacles are inviting chaos, mismanagement and bitter division.

'A major controversy unfolded on Monday. Immigration officials refused to allow Somali referee Omar Artan — a man widely recognized as the best referee on the African continent — into the United States after he arrived in Miami over the weekend. The decision drew immense backlash; Artan said that it was his “biggest dream” to officiate the World Cup.

'The Somali ref isn’t the only person having trouble. Iraq forward Aymen Hussein was detained and questioned at Chicago’s O’Hare airport for nearly seven hours. The team’s photographer wasn’t allowed entry at all. FIFA revoked tickets for Iranian fans to see their team play in the United States. South Africa’s team delayed their trip to the U.S. because of visa issues, which the country’s sports minister described as “embarrassing and grossly unfair.”'
