BREAKING: Next No Kings Protest Planned to Protest Trump on His 80th Birthday
The No Kings movement is planning its biggest mobilization yet, announcing a nationwide day of action on June 14 that will directly counter-program Donald Trump's 80th birthday celebration and a UFC fight the president is hosting on the White House South Lawn.
The centerpiece is a free 90-minute concert at New York's Town Hall featuring Bette Midler, Patti Smith, Jane Fonda, Rufus Wainwright, and Joy Reid, streaming nationwide while local groups host watch parties across the country. Organizers are framing the event around America's 250th anniversary as a moment of democratic reckoning, presenting a stark contrast to Trump's spectacle on the South Lawn, where 4,000 ticketed guests and a fan festival expected to draw 100,000 people will celebrate the president's birthday with a UFC title fight.
The No Kings movement has earned its credibility through sheer numbers. Its first mobilization last June drew an estimated 5 million participants. October brought 7 million. A March action put an estimated 8 million people in the streets across all 50 states and more than two dozen countries, which organizers called the largest single-day protest ever recorded in American history. June 14 is shaping up to be the largest yet.
"We can let strongman politics and corruption define the moment," the organization said in a statement, "or we can make the story of America about people coming together across race, background, identity, belief and community to defend our rights and build a future rooted in people power."
Trump, predictably, is treating his birthday like a coronation. The White House called UFC Freedom 250 "one of the greatest and most historic sports events in history." Millions of Americans begging to differ will have their own answer ready.
