Hello my relatives and my people.
My name is Jeanine Jensen, I am of the
The Yacca Fruit Strung out in a Line People. I am born for the Black Streaked Wood Bear people. My maternal
grandfathers are of the Water's Edge Zuni People. My paternal grandfathers are of the Mexican People clan. That is how I am Diné woman. I am currently collecting signatures in hopes to get my name onto the ballot for FUSD Governing Board. I decided enough was enough. All of our children need a change that will set them on a path to success. I believe all of our children deserve to have unlimited access to every possible system that will give them the best education. I say every possible system because every child is different. The best way to guide our children on these paths is to find out what each child needs in order to create an environment of safety, reassurance and encouragement to strive for greatness. Our children are our future. Let’s work together to give our children the structure and knowledge they need to accomplish anything they set their minds to. I have been a community member for over half of my life. Despite spending most of my adolescence in Las Vegas, Flagstaff and Leupp has always been my home. Spending school breaks here in Flagstaff, I became rich in my culture, ranching and small town kindness. I feel these components have taught me the true definition of community. With this, i know the only way our community, city, can continue to grow is by making sure our children are educated and supported. I believe my being a parent, as well as my time as and EMT, Firefighter and basketball Coach has given me the skill set needed to accomplish this mission I’ve set myself up for. I was brought up in a family that taught me to pray, work hard and never stop learning. They taught me there was always more to learn. My grandmother use to say,” T’áá hwó’ aji t’éego.” Meaning, ‘It is up to you.” I believe this is the mindset our children need to be taught and reminded of. I plan to make Education for our children a priority again. To bring culture back into our schools and teach the importance of community. I want to see all our children accomplish what they set their minds to. In order to do that, we need to hit the reset button for our School District. Take another look at our systems now, see what’s working, what’s not, and fix the things that are not working. Cultivate our schools, reestablish our roots and let our children witness the greatness that can come from hard work. I plan to work with our teachers, administrators and most importantly, our families to set in place systems that will work for each child. Without collaboration, we can not set goals, accomplish greatness or work towards a better future. I thank you for your support and I look forward to working with you all so that we can create a better environment for not only our children but our teachers and staff as well.
