It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved retired police officer, Jeff White. Officer White began his career with the City of Flint Police Department in 1991 and dedicated nearly 28 years to our city. Prior to serving the City of Flint, Officer White served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Trooper for the Michigan State Police.

In 2013, Officer White received a life saving award for his actions at the 2012 fire of Rosehaven Manor Apartment. He and other officers were first on scene to the senior retirement apartment community that was filled with smoke and fire. Despite not having protective fire gear, Officer White entered the burning building and helped carry several elderly residents out, saving numerous lives while risking his own.

Officer White always had a positive energy and his infectious smile lifted the spirits of everyone around him. He touched countless lives with his selflessness and commitment to protecting and serving others. The Flint Police Department offers its deepest condolences to Officer White's family and friends. Rest in peace Jeff, you will be missed.

🚨 PROPOSAL: The Deer Impact Reduction Fee (DIRF) 🦌

Deer collisions are taking over Genesee County, and we’ve got a wild plan to put an end to it. Introducing the Deer Impact Reduction Fee (DIRF)—because it’s time to take back our roads! 🚗💥🦌

Here’s how it works:

1️⃣ 🛡 Mandatory Deer Insurance: Every vehicle owner will pay a $50 annual DIRF added to registration fees. These funds go straight into “deer control initiatives” (a fancy way of saying making roads safer for everyone).

2️⃣ 🚧 Roadside Fencing Expansion: We’ll use the DIRF money to install 12-foot fences along major roads, gently encouraging deer to stick to their new turf.

3️⃣ ⚠️ Deer Crossing Zones: Designated crossing zones will be equipped with motion-activated lights and alarms 🚨. If you speed through these zones, expect double fines—we’re watching. 👀

4️⃣ 🤝 Community Deer Patrols: Every neighborhood will be asked to form local “Deer Patrol” squads to monitor deer activity. Volunteers get an exclusive “Deer Hero” bumper sticker 🏆.

5️⃣ ✈️ Relocation Program: Any deer caught chilling in high-risk areas will be relocated to somewhere more scenic. (Livingston County, good luck!)

We know what you’re thinking: “Why me? Why my $50?” But think about it—less deer in the road means less cha-ching at the auto shop. 💰

📢 GENESEE COUNTY UPDATE: THE SPIKE STRIP DREAM IS DEAD 🚫

Well, folks, it turns out the Spike Strip Speed Enforcement System wasn’t exactly the slam dunk we thought it’d be. After a few hiccups (and an overwhelming number of angry comments), we’ve decided to pull the plug.

Here’s what went wrong:
✅ Tire Safety Concerns: Apparently, nobody likes the idea of accidentally popping their tires for driving 26 in a 25. Who knew?
✅ Prototype Problems: Let’s just say the system had a “bad habit” of deploying on, um… non-speeding vehicles. R.I.P. delivery drivers.
✅ Budget Woes: Funding a “Spike Strip Task Force” and mandatory tire patch kits for every resident wasn’t in the cards.

We appreciate everyone’s spirited feedback on this initiative (yes, even the person who suggested we add spikes to school zones). While the spike strip idea is officially off the table, we’re always open to creative (and less destructive) solutions to improve road safety.

Stay tuned for updates—you never know what we’ll come up with next!

📢 GENESEE COUNTY VOTE ALERT: NEW POLICY ON ROAD SAFETY 📢

Should Genesee County replace speed bumps with randomly placed spike strips? 🚧✨

Here’s what this groundbreaking proposal would include:
✅ Spike strips would be randomly deployed throughout neighborhoods to encourage “defensive driving.”
✅ Drivers would receive one free tire patch kit per year as part of the program.
✅ Local auto shops would receive government funding to support the increase in “community flat repairs.”

This initiative is projected to:
🚗 Reduce speeding by 150%
💰 Save the county $2 million annually on road maintenance
👮 Create new jobs for Spike Strip Deployment Specialists.

🗳️ Voting starts February 1st! What’s your take?
YES 🔥 - Slow ‘Em Down!
NO 🛞 - Keep My Tires Safe!

Our community mourns the loss of Kathryn Marie Shimmons, who tragically lost her life in a hit-and-run incident on Dort Highway.

The Flint Police Department is actively investigating this case and urges anyone with information to come forward.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated officers working tirelessly on this investigation.

This tragedy serves as a solemn reminder to:

🌨❄ First Snow of the Season! Stay Safe on the Roads! ❄🌨

Genesee County, the snowflakes are here! As we welcome the beauty of the season, let’s remember to stay alert and drive with caution. Snowy roads and hidden patches of ice can make for tricky travel. 🚗💨

• Slow down: Give yourself extra time to reach your destination.
• Increase following distance: Keep more space between you and the car ahead.
• Stay prepared: Make sure your wipers, tires, and lights are winter-ready.
• Be mindful of black ice: Especially on bridges, overpasses, and shaded areas.

Whether you’re commuting or enjoying the snowy sights, let’s look out for each other and keep Genesee County safe.

If you see any hazardous conditions, let us know in the comments so we can keep the community informed!

Stay warm, stay safe, and enjoy the snow! ❄✨
