Missing Person... Kosara Wayne McMillian, AKA “GINO”, (65) was last seen in December 2023 in the downtown Flint area. (The missing person report was not filed until last week.) He is describes as 5'8", 200 lbs, with black and gray hair.

Did you know that in Michigan, many families struggle to afford housing, with about 12.1% spending more than half their income on it? Between 2013 and 2021, home prices shot up by 84%, exacerbating the issue. Disparities are stark; while Black people represent only 14% of the population, they make up 48% of the unhoused population. These figures underscore the urgency of addressing broader issues leading to housing instability, especially among marginalized communities.

Explore the map below for a glimpse into housing cost burdens across Michigan's counties, highlighting the necessity of prioritizing housing stability in Phase III of the Social Determinants of Health Strategy. Let's advocate for policies promoting fair housing practices and strive toward communities where everyone has a secure place to call home. The "Good Housing = Good Health" Program is underway! This collaborative effort between MDHHS and MSHDA, aims to stabilize housing, address social determinants of health and create thriving communities.

As of Dec. 31, 2023, 634 households have been served. Of these households, 123 received MI Bridges Navigation connecting them to additional resources.

Thanks to the 20 local health departments and 1 community-based organization who are leading this effort locally. Learn more about this transformative program and its impact at Michigan.gov/SDOH.
