STE Mission

Wellness AIDS Services, Inc.

assists in the care of individuals who are infected/affected by HIV/AIDS, and promotes education and prevention in the community. History
Wellness HIV/AIDS Services, Inc. was formed to serve as a catalyst for the empowerment of people affected by HIV and a leader in HIV-related harm reduction and sensitivity education in our community. In furtherance of this purpose, Wellness will continue to:
o P

rovide and/or advocate for comprehensive and coordinated emotional and physical health care and social services to persons living with HIV and their families. o Facilitate harm reduction for those whose behaviors place them at greatest risk for infection with HIV. o Serve as a community resource for information about HIV. Vision

Wellness HIV/AIDS Services, Inc. will be an independent and financially stable agency with a multi-cultural staff and dozens of well-trained volunteers. Based upon detailed marketing and development plans and a record of quality services, the agency will become recognized as the “premiere” HIV authority in the community it serves. The focus and consolidation of the agency’s efforts will be reflected in its comprehensive model for the prevention of HIV and its effects, following three courses of prevention:
o Primary: To raise awareness and prevent new infection
o Secondary: To prevent the onset of symptoms among those already infected
o Tertiary: To prevent morbidity and morality among those who are already experiencing symptoms
All three approaches will be based upon the most current research conducted in both traditional and nontraditional medicine and the behavioral sciences and will rely heavily upon a family systems approach to harm reduction.

November 20th is . According to transrespect.org, 327 trans and gender diverse people were reported killed globally in the past year. Of the reported killings worldwide, a majority of victims were Black and migrant trans women of color, and trans s*x workers.

This , Wellness honors the memory of too many precious community members taken from us far too soon. We hope that in addition to mourning the loss of these lives cut short, that you cherish the trans and gender diverse people who are currently in your life, and give them their flowers while they are here to enjoy them. Please also consider donating to causes like the Trans Sistas of Color Project, the Ruth Ellis Center, the Michigan Trans Assistance Project, the Trans Stellar Film Festival, or directly to trans and gender diverse individuals in need.

When looking to reduce or quit smoking, here's some quick ideas on things that you might be able to find around the house that will help you substitute in a moment's notice.

To***co use typically suppresses hunger and some people may find themselves gaining weight while they are trying to reduce, handy snacks such as apples, carrot sticks or nuts could assist during that transitional period of managing and creating new coping methods in your journey.

Check out the link below for more ideas:

https://60plus.smokefree.gov/
Smoking cessation and harm reduction are important focuses when it comes to HIV living.

"Smoking has many negative health effects. People with HIV who smoke are more likely than people with HIV who don’t smoke to

Develop lung cancer, head and neck cancers, cervical and a**l cancers, and other cancers.

Develop bacterial pneumonia, Pneumocystis jiroveciipneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and heart disease.

Develop conditions that affect the mouth, such as oral candidiasis (thrush) and oral hairy leukoplakia.

Have a poorer response to HIV treatment."
https://www.mentalhealth.va.gov/quit-to***co/docs/HIVandTo***coUse.pdf
"It doesn’t matter how old you are or how long you’ve been smoking, quitting smoking at any time improves your health. When you quit, you are likely to add years to your life, breathe more easily, have more energy, and save money. "

📣🚭"How Does Smoking Affect People with HIV?
Smoking is dangerous for everyone. It harms nearly every organ of the body, causes many diseases, and affects the health of smokers in general. The risks of serious health consequences are much higher for people with HIV, who smoke at twice the rate of the general population."📣🚭
