SBA - Choose Public SBA System

Many people skip past the SBA’s Dynamic Small Business Profile when completing their System For Award Management profile. Use your Dynamic Small Business profile as a free marketing tool. Include as much information about your business as possible such as licenses, Keywords, Company Narrative and past performance and update it annually when you renew your SAM profile. Look at the SAM/DSBS profiles of other firms in your industry by searching on https://web.sba.gov to see if your profile is competitive. #TipTuesday

You can also talk to one of our PTAC Counselors, to discuss the WOSB certification, federal set-asides for WOSB or EDWOSB (Economically Disadvantaged Woman Owned Small Business), and how it can give you a competitive advantage with government contracting! This certification process is free, and we would be more than happy to help you through it! #TipTuesday

Make Sure It’s the Right Opportunity
Beta.Sam.Gov (formerly fbo.gov) is the primary site to find federal government contracting opportunities above $25,000 and above. When looking for opportunities make sure to look for Request for Information (RFI) and Sources Sought notices that will give you the advantage of preparing for the opportunities prior to the Request for Proposal (RFP). To learn more about navigating Beta.Sam.Gov please join our office on September 22nd. Visit the link below to register.

Have a targeted approach when it comes to bidding on opportunities. Bid out on 2 or 3 subject areas where you have expertise rather than going after 15 or more opportunities that are sort of in your wheelhouse. If you want to win government contracts, then you need to stay tightly focused and concentrate on what you do best. #TipTuesday

Once a contractor gets set up a beta.sam.gov and begins to save their searches a thing to note is that although they will receive emails of new alerts, they actually have to go into the system under their saved searches to see the new opportunities.

For new contractors interested in getting beta.sam.gov reach out to your local PTAC. #TipTuesday #PTAC

Be in Good Standing To become eligible for a government contract, businesses should be in good standing with the state(s) in which they conduct business and have up-to-date business licenses. Being in good standing means a business is to date with annual reporting, franchise taxes, and other compliance requirements. Businesses that do not stay up-to-date with compliance obligations and business licenses can lose their authority to operate within the state which may impact their eligibility to obtain government contracts. #TipTuesday
