My pastor Bro. Chad Johnson quoted Charles Spurgeon this morning during his sermon and the quote has been on my mind all day.

“Discernment is not knowing the difference between right and wrong. It is knowing the difference between right and almost right.”

Leadership has taught me that the hardest decisions are rarely between what is obviously right and what is obviously wrong. More often than not, they are between what is right and what is almost right.
That distinction requires discernment, wisdom, and humility. Sometimes the right decision isn’t the most popular. Sometimes the popular decision isn’t the best one. At times I have looked back and realized I made the “almost right” decision myself. Leadership means being willing to learn from those moments.
I pray that God continues to give me the wisdom to seek the truth and the facts to allow me to make decisions based on what is right and not what is easiest or most popular. Popularity should never replace principle. Personal feelings should never outweigh facts. Pride should never prevent us from admitting when we’ve chosen what was “almost right” instead of what was right. Every decision we make affects the people who have placed their trust in us. May we all have the humility to seek wisdom, the courage to follow truth, and the integrity to do what is right even when it is difficult or unpopular. I challenge my fellow Council members in Florala, as well as all leaders in any capacity to do what is “RIGHT” and not what is “ALMOST RIGHT”

The City of Florala Council meeting will be Thursday July 16th following a workshop beginning at 6:00 PM. The meeting will be held at the RJECC building due to continued repairs at the municipal complex. As always, the workshop and meeting are open to the public.
