Looks like our first named storm of the season is headed for us! We should expect the rain to start tonight through Saturday morning. Rain totals expected are 2-4" with 30mph winds. Take this time to make sure any valuables are off of basement floors and that your sump pumps are working. Also ensure that rain gutters are clear and the water pushes away from foundations.

MESSAGE TITLE: Public Awareness

MESSAGE TYPE: Information Sharing

INCIDENT TYPE: Innocuous Wi-Fi Advertisement in Forbes magazine that May Appear to Look Suspicious

HANDLING: FOUO

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: 26 April 2013

SUMMARY: Forbes magazine has recently published and mailed out a special issue which advertises a new Wi-Fi “hot spot” mechanism. It contains a Wi-Fi access point glued into the magazine, with a battery operated power source, including wires attached. While the advertisement is completely innocuous, the physical appearance may appear to look like an explosive device. New Jersey has seen an increase in suspicious activity reporting since the Boston marathon attacks, particularly incidents of suspicious packages and bomb threats. Due to the public’s increased awareness, this advertisement may appear suspicious, and may cause undue alarm. Therefore, the NJ ROIC is sending a Situational Awareness to our law enforcement and private sector security partners.

POINT OF CONTACT: Any suspicious activity with a possible nexus to terrorism in New Jersey should be reported immediately following existing protocols specific to respective counties. Activity can also be reported by dialing 2-1-1 or (866) 4SAFENJ (866-472-3365), or by e-mailing [email protected].
