On June 3rd, APA VOICE: Voting and Organizing to Increase Civic Engagement (convened by MinKwon Center) hosted a candidate forum for New York’s State Senate District 27 and State Assembly District 65. The event drew a diverse crowd of over 120 local residents eager to hear from the candidates ahead of the upcoming election. The forum was moderated by John Chin, Dean of the Asian American / Asian Research Institute - City University of New York.

The Asian American population is the fastest-growing demographic in New York State, surging by 37.6% between 2010 and 2020. In New York City, Asian American voter participation has nearly tripled over the past decade in these very neighborhoods that our member organizations and coalition partners serve. The candidate forum provided a unique opportunity for the growing Asian American electorate to meet and address candidates on issues affecting us today.
