There will not be an August Meeting. We wil resume regular meetings on September 17, 2020.
For Post members, the uniform on Memorial Day is garrison cap, short sleeve shirt, yellow cravat and sleeve braid. Please inform Adjutant John Commet if you plan to attend.
American Legion Commander John Howe will be giving a presentation to the Flushing Historical Society on Monday, September 16 at 7:00. Free to the public. Legion members, come show your support.
American Legion Meeting, Thursday, September 19, 7:30 pm
Friday, September 20 at 7:00 there will be a ceremony by the Vietnam Veterans Association at Genesee County's Bluebell Beach. All are welcome.

Attention all Veterans in the Genesee County area. The VA will be having a general open house about benefits, medical and other at the Flint Outpatient Clinic. Check it out!
Join us tomorrow for the parade in Flushing. The American Legion and the VFW are being joined by some Eagle Scouts at the head of the parade. Please remember to stand, remove your hats and pay your respects to the US Flag as it goes by.

NOVEMBER 9 & 10 The American Legion will be selling raffle tickets at Beuche's in Flushing from 10am - 6pm. $1 / ticket or $5 gets you 6 tickets! We're raffling đź’°đź’°đź’° money! First prize is $300.00, Second is $150.00, and Third is $50.00. Drawing to be held November 10 at Beuche's at 6pm, or when tickets sell out!
Post 283's Summer Picnic!
March meeting will be on the 17th, St. Patrick's Day, starting at 7:30 PM. Sorry, no green beer, (historical society rules) but there will be discussion on the April raffle, the condition of the War Memorial in the Flushing cemetery and other items. All interested Veterans are welcome to attend.

The January meeting will be held on the 21st at the Flushing Museum. Officer's meeting starts at 7pm and the General meeting will begin at 7:30. All American Legion members are welcome to attend and Veterans qualified to join the Legion. See the eligibility page at www.legion.org.
Operation Handshake at Bishop International Airport
On Tuesday, December 22, A Welcome Home to the troops will be held at Bishop International Airport. We will be greeting all Active Duty and Veterans arriving and leaving by air from 9 am to 9 pm. All are given a rousing 'Welcome Home'. Everyone is welcome to join the flag line and if you have a 3 x 5 flag on a pole, please bring it.
Free Parking for participants is behind the maintenance building across the street from the airport. There will be a shuttle to take you to the front door.
This event is coordinated and sponsored by the Patriot Guard Riders and the Vietnam Veterans Association groups throughout Genesee County.
A charter member of Post 283 has passed this week, Jack Kildee. He will be buried at the Great Lakes National Cemetery on Friday, December 18 at 11:30.
Christmas dinner at Liberty Restaurant
Our December meeting will be a Christmas dinner on December 17 starting at 6:00pm at Liberty Restaurant on Pierson Rd in Flushing. Everyone is welcome to attend, to share camaraderie and holiday spirit. Family is welcome and dinner is on your own.

The American Legion, Flushing Post 283, performed a ceremony Wednesday, November 11, honoring our American Military personnel. A friendly, larger than usual crowd, was a pleasure to mingle with. Thank you once again American Legion for remembering our veterans! I love Flushing!!!

The American Legion will be performing an American Legion Veteran's memorial service for John on Sunday at 4:00 pm at Sharp Funeral Homes in Swartz Creek Sharpfuneralhomes.com. John was a Charter Member of Post 283. He will be buried in the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly on Monday.

Saturday, July 19 there will be a ceremony at the Great Lakes Cemetery in Holly commemorating the beginning of the Vietnam War. It will start at 10:00 am.

Sunday afternoon at 4pm the American Legion, Flushing Post 283, performed a flag raising ceremony at the Flushing Museum (Depot). What a wonderful tribute to our "heros" who have defended our country's freedom throughout it's history. Thank you American Legion for your service to our city by keeping the memory our our "heros" alive.

CORRECTION: SUNDAY, June 13 at 4:00 pm, there will be a Flag Day ceremony at the Flushing Historical Society. We will raise a new flag, have a couple of speakers and some music. Everyone is invited to attend. You can bring a chair if you would like to sit.
Memorial Day Ceremony - May 25, 2015
The American Legion, Flushing Post #283 conducted the Memorial Day Ceremony at the Flushing Cemetery, at the Soldiers & Sailors Monument, 6p, Monday evening. Thank you so very much gentlemen for keeping alive the contributions of our fallen service men and women! Thank you Dan Hays for enriching the ceremony with your wonderful, God-given vocal talent! And thank you Mike "Flagman" Bowen for your great example of patriotism! You folks are a big part of why I love Flushing so much. May God richly bless you!!!
