Julie Woznick will receive the Carl W. Tonjes Award, sponsored by the Fond du Lac Area Foundation. Paul Osterholm, Nominator of Woznick writes, “As a community volunteer, board member of Habitat for Humanity of Fond du Lac County, a friend, and professional not-for-profit fundraiser, Julie strives for excellence throughout her life. Julie has always displayed a high degree of integrity, professionalism, responsibility, and ambition. She is definitely a leader rather than a follower, as numerous community opportunities and life experiences have provided her with an understanding of the importance of leadership. As a community mentor, Julie has excelled in-and-out of the community boardrooms, setting the standards high for community and volunteer members. Julie’s ability to communicate, teach, and lead others has been outstanding. Julie understands the importance of personal dedication and teamwork. Unafraid to take on leadership roles, Julie leads by example. Thus, the Fond du Lac community has learned and flourished under her direction and dedication.” Woznick serves as Habitat for Humanity board president and chairs the ReStore committee; serves as secretary for the Fond du Lac Retail Holdings/Waterfront District; vice president of the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters; director of St. Mary Spring’s Student Mission and volunteer coordinator of American Legion Student Mission Trip breakfasts. Julie and her husband Ray are currently a host family for Global Outreach. She is the event planner for Catholic War Veterans and has designed and printed booklets for St. Vincent de Paul’s, Servant of the Poor banquet. Julie is a 2010 graduate of Association of Commerce Fond du Lac Leadership program.

Jeramie Sweeney has been selected as the recipient of the Spirit of Compassion Award, sponsored by Agnesian HealthCare. Nominator Cyndi Trent writes, “Jeramie volunteered over 100 hours to the Children’s Museum of Fond du Lac last year by assisting at many events. Jeramie also developed a relationship with another volunteer- a young adult man with autism. Together he and Jeramie worked on exhibit and facility repairs and even became friends on Facebook! This young man learned some handyman skills and gained self-confidence along the way. Jeramie is a disabled veteran who served his country for 8 years and is currently an Education and Broad Social Science major at Marian University. He also has a 14 year old daughter that volunteers at the museum and it is something they do together when they can. The passion Jeramie has for the museum and the children it serves is obvious and contagious- he can usually round up volunteers quickly for a project! He is deserving of this award although he would be the first to say, “Eh, just doing what I can, when I can.” – to the tune of over 100 volunteer hours in 2014!”

The winner of the Outstanding Senior Volunteer Award, sponsored by Lutheran Homes and Health Services, Inc. is Lillian Foote. Nominator Ruthann Ross writes of Lillian’s volunteer efforts with Holy Family: “Whether bringing Communion to a homebound person, or offering a meal to someone who is ill, she does so without second thought and with unconditional love. Lil volunteers her time willingly and without concern of the time it takes away from her own home and family.” In recognition of her efforts as a Loaves & Fishes volunteer, nominator Dawn Colwin writes, “She is one of those quiet people that just does things without others noticing. She has a caring way about her that is very sincere. Her mannerisms complete her compassion for others.” Catherine Adelmeyer writes, “All of the volunteer programs that Lillian does, she asks nothing in return for the countless hours she spends of her time. She truly has a gift of love of mankind and compassion and she has blessed many with her gifts.”

The Outstanding Rural Volunteer Award sponsored by Grande Cheese is awarded to Katie Grinstead. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Ms. Grinstead for the past 10 years as a volunteer and recently as a fellow board member of the Fond du Lac County Fair Board.” Writes nominator Matthew Immel. “Katie grew up on her family farm, which she currently is part owner of, and exhibited at the County Fair regularly. Like myself, she found the lessons she learned while exhibiting at the Fair through 4-H were so instrumental in laying the foundation for her to build a career on. Katie’s hours of volunteer service, leadership, and dedication to the Fair and toward agriculture education in our county more than qualify her for this much deserved recognition. Grinstead’s efforts teach the story of agriculture and illustrate the journey our food takes from farm to table reach much farther than the city of Fond du Lac. She meets with businesses, clubs, and organizations to promote agriculture and solicit businesses and individuals to join the cause and raise awareness not only to the benefits of farming but to the economic impact farming has on our community.”

Sarah Bertram has been selected as the Rising Star Award winner, sponsored by Mid-States Aluminum. Nominator Barb Van Egtern writes: “Sarah has been a volunteer at Agnesian HealthCare since 2013. Sarah was instrumental in starting the Relationship Based Care program for our inpatient units. She felt a strong desire for Agnesian HealthCare to have a program that provides a listening ear, gentle touch, or even assisting patients with ordering their food. Sarah has not stopped volunteering or seeing the importance of volunteers – through her efforts we have now expanded that program to also provide a comfort cart for our RBC volunteers to stop in the rooms daily and provide a puzzle, deck of cards or maybe a stress ball for that dad going through labor! Sarah had a dream and she was not afraid to speak up and make a difference. Sarah has promoted volunteering at Marian University with her college professors asking them to make it mandatory to volunteer for a minimum of 40 hours before receiving a degree. She stated that by volunteering it has really changed her outlook in nursing. Sarah currently trains the RBC volunteers because who better to learn from but the best!!”

Not only is Matt passionate about our local fair but he serves on the Wisconsin Association of Fairs Board as a director. Matt is also active on the national level and serves as the membership chair for the IAFE (International Association of Fair and Expositions). The Outstanding Agency Volunteer Award, sponsored by FdL Reporter will be presented to David Bunkert. Nominator Mary Narges writes: “He truly embodies the characteristics of a person any non-profit agency would want on their team.. He assists our organization by soliciting items for our Annual Raffle and Silent Auction. Each year he courageously and single handedly approaches businesses on his walking, face-to-face campaign to raise support for Free SPIRIT Riders. The annual totals this humble, kind man has raised each year increases annually and it is not unusual for him to raise funds and procure raffle and Silent Auction items valued from $7,000 to $10,000. If David is aware that someone does not have transportation to our facility for a class at the same time as a family member, he graciously offers to transport them, or if someone who is at our facility when he is and needs a ride home, he will provide it. He is being nominated for the Outstanding Agency Volunteer award because of his self-directed efforts on our behalf. If there were an award for the best Good Will Ambassador or Outstanding Spokesman, David would be the best candidate.”
