I was happy to celebrate National Farmers Market Week with the folks from the Grow Amsterdam Farmers Market and Senator Patricia A. Fahy.

A big thank you to Senator Fahy for securing another $25,000 operating grant to support the market. This funding will help ensure the Grow Amsterdam Farmers Market continues to be a great asset to our community, supporting local farmers, vendors, and giving residents access to fresh, locally grown products.

I want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who stepped up to respond during this week’s historic rainfall.

Thank you to our countywide Department of Public Works crews, emergency services personnel, law enforcement, fire departments, and local partners who worked tirelessly to keep our residents safe. Your long hours, teamwork, and dedication helped clear roads, restore safe travel, and support our communities when they needed it most. Thank you!

I'm declaring a Local State of Emergency for the Town of Amsterdam following today's localized flash flooding.

What does this mean?

While the term "State of Emergency" can sound alarming, this declaration is primarily an administrative tool that allows local government to respond and recover more efficiently. It helps expedite emergency road and infrastructure repairs, access available resources, and streamline the processes needed to restore damaged areas as quickly as possible.

There is currently NO countywide travel advisory in effect. Residents should continue to use caution around flooded or damaged roadways and obey all road closure signs and barricades.

Highway crews are actively assessing damage and making repairs. We appreciate everyone's patience as recovery efforts continue.

We will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available.

Another great food distribution event with the Regional Food Bank! This month, we were at the Canajoharie Central School District helping get food into the hands of local families.
