Thirty minutes east of Dallas on Route 80, Forney may seem like just one more town on the way out of town—but to the tens of thousands who live in and around it, it’s more: it’s Forney Country. This community is defined less by boundaries on a map than by the sense of shared values its people hold dear. Forney strives to balance its pioneering past with a forward-thinking vision of the future—maintaining a vibrant, family-centered lifestyle, helping entrepreneurs reinvent its historic downtown, continuing to invest in new parks, trails and roads, and attracting the amenities its growing population demands. Forney is known for its nationally recognized schools, attractive housing prices, and down-to-earth people. Those who call it home are independent, friendly, and caring—quick to rally around one of their own in need. Forney draws like-minded people to itself, and beckons those who’ve left to return. Forney is an American original—a city without limits.

Mission: Working together to build a sense of community in a safe environment, while attracting quality growth in a family-oriented atmosphere.

The 5-year agreement slightly lowers the current residential monthly rate and begins on March 1st, 2021.

***Update 10/31/2020 10:50pm*** Thank you to everyone who drove through this area this evening safely and courteously. Traffic flowed continuously, and we appreciate our citizens, Pristine Express Car Wash, and AMC CLASSIC Forney 12 for working together to make this event run smoothly.

On October 30, 2020 from 7-10pm, Pristine Express Car Wash converted their car wash to a haunted tunnel. The unique idea provides a socially distant, safe way for folks to enjoy Halloween and drew hundreds of vehicles tonight. In partnership with Pristine Express Car Wash and AMC CLASSIC Forney 12 Theater, the Forney Police Department has developed a plan to reduce traffic congestion for the drive through event on Halloween night, 10/31/2020. Members of the Forney Police Department will be in the area to direct traffic shortly before the car wash opens at 7pm. As the line of vehicles waiting to get into the car wash develops, those waiting are asked to enter from one of two directions. One entrance will be from the US 80 Service Road onto Marketplace Boulevard. The second entrance will be from FM 548 at Kroger Drive. As the line of cars develops, AMC CLASSIC Forney 12 has volunteered the use of their parking lot to line up vehicles waiting to get into the car wash. This will keep traffic from backing up onto FM 548 to the north and south. Please be patient, follow the directions of officers, and drive courteously as we work to get everyone safely through this area tomorrow evening. Have a safe and fun Halloween!

Hope everyone has a safe and happy Halloween🎃👻

Earlier this month, public hearing dates were scheduled for the following zoning request to be considered by the Planning and Zoning Commission on November 5th and by the City Council on November 15th:

“Hold a public hearing and discuss and consider approval of an Ordinance rezoning 12.239 acres of land from Planned Development (Fox Hollow South) to a Planned Development with a base zoning of Multi-Family Residential-15 District and Neighborhood Service District. The property is located northwest of Monitor Boulevard and northeast of F.M. 741.”

We know that many residents are interested in this request and wanted to inform the public that this hearing will NOT be taking place in November. The applicant has withdrawn the request until the December 3rd Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. If you have any questions, please contact City Planner Alex Dixon at [email protected].

10/22/2020

During Tuesday night’s council meeting, the City of Forney Finance Department was awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the 2019-2020 FY budget. This marks the 12th consecutive year that the Finance Department has received this award!

GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA's best practices on budgeting and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal. To earn recognition, budget documents must meet program criteria and excel as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communication tool.

Congratulations to our finance department on their outstanding achievement!
