The Fort Belvoir Survivor Outreach Services will be temporarily closing for an undetermined amount of time, the Survivor Outreach Service is not going away there is still Fort Myers if you are in the North or Fort Lee in the South. Right now there is no scheduled replacement, however if you should need any financial assistance or benefits questions please visit the Fort Belvoir ACS or the nearest alternate SOS located near you. For several benefits answers please visit your local Veterans Service Representative or Casualty Assistance.

Limited to 65 participants! 8/13–10/22 (skipping 9/3; 9/24; and 10/8).8 EACH - FREE - SATURDAY LESSONS TAUGHT BY PGA/LPGA PROFESSIONALS AT THE FORT BELVOIR GOLF CLUBSPOUSES, CHILDREN & SURVIVORS ARE ENCOURAGED TO JOIN!!CLUBS, RANGE BALLS and LUNCH PROVIDED FREE

Most Sessions will be 0930-1130 hours followed by lunch – 9/10 & 10/22 sessions start with optional lunch at 1130 hrs. Then onto the golf course approximately 1300-1500 hours.

WOUNDED WARRIORS WITH CERTAIN PERMANENT PHYSICAL INJURIES – WHO ATTEND AT LEAST 6 SESSIONS, WILL QUALIFY FOR A FREE SET OF PING GOLF CLUBS (as determined by Disabled Sports USA).

As the 4th of July is approaching and we all are preparing to make our plans for social gatherings, picnics, fireworks, parties and parades, let us not forget the true meaning of Independence Day. This was the day that our Nation and the Continental Congress declared that the thirteen American Colonies are no longer a part of the British Empire and the Unites States of America is born and the Declaration of Independence is signed in 1776.

For me the most important phrase within the text of the Declaration of Independence is the start of the second paragraph ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.’ It brings to the forefront of what our country has continued to establish and fight for.

Our Founding Fathers understood the significance of this Declaration, which was composed by our third President Thomas Jefferson, in order to declare independence from the dictatorship rule of Great Britain, that they would essentially be signing their death sentence. The colonies were already at war with Great Britain for over a year and wanted nothing more than to be free and to make their own decisions, govern themselves and have enduring liberty. Against all odds and having the courage to stand up to a tyrant in the face of adversity they simply told the world that ‘these United Colonies are, and of right ought to be, free and independent states.’

For 240 years we as a Nation have fought to preserve what our Founding Fathers established for the future of our country. We have been to war with others and ourselves to protect that sovereignty and live as a free nation. We have shed blood on every continent to protect the rights of others and protect our way of life.

When you celebrate the 4th of July, stop and take a moment to realize what we are truly celebrating and take time to thank those that are protecting our freedom and placing themselves in harm’s way. We are still at war with foreign adversaries, who are trying to destroy our freedom and the freedom of the world. This weekend is the time for all of us to stand together and treasure the original vision, that many have fought and died for and to come together collectively as a Nation and rediscover our birth and educate ourselves and future generations that we live in a free society and Pledge Allegiance to a government of the people, by the people and for the people of the United States of America.
