I Served My Country and was Terminated for Serving Those Who Serve Our Country
To the Leadership of AAFES
I’m writing this letter in concern of how I was treated at the Exchange Fort Bliss this past weekend.
I’m a U.S. Army Disabled Veteran who owns the AT Ease Hair & Skin Care Products line based in Plano, Texas. With an Award Winning team of licensed Barbers and Cosmetologist with over 57 years combined experience in the beauty industry servicing customers, celebrities, and high profile clientele, training, educating, platform artist work and hair show expos.
AT Ease Hair and Skin Care signed up to be a vendor at the Fort Bliss Exchange the weekend of April 1-3, 2022.
Eager to be of service educating the soldiers, their families, and the civilians stationed there, on proper grooming, maintenance, and styling techniques when it comes to our diverse (All Hair and Skin Type)products made with natural ingredients that cleanse, moisturize, repair, and heals hair and skin. Also helping pinpoint their concerns when it comes to Pityriasis capitis(Dandruff) or Pseudofolliculitis barbae(Razor Bumps), by demonstrating our products and tools.
Honestly I don’t know what to feel, as a Veteran, Business Owner, and Leader who strives to do things right, who understands rules, regulations, morals, and values.
Knowing AAFES Mission Statement to provide quality merchandise and services to its customers at competitively low prices and to generate earnings which provide a dividend to support morale, welfare and recreation programs.
AT Ease Hair and Skin Care Mission is providing quality hair and skin care products, merchandise, and service along with building the morale of those we come in contact with. We’re Built On INTEGRITY!
On April 1, 2022 we arrived on Fort Bliss at 0730 after getting a pass we got to the Exchange around 0745 to the place where Mrs. Juanita Rosales said the tables would be set up, finding nothing I called her cell phone and business line several times with no answer, then 0815 I emailed her to tell her I was where she told me to be, 0822 I got a email from her telling me to come to where she was. After completing the paperwork and arriving back to the Exchange we started moving in and setting up. I went to sign out the tablet to prepare for the event, tried signing in and could not, so at 1110 I called Mrs. Rosales again several times with no answer. Then once I got her she said she had not started the event and would email the password within 15 minutes. The password was sent at 1215 with our first sale at 1218.
Less than a hour in a half of being of service to the AAFES customers who were at that time African American Soldier’s and Civilians ranked from O-3, E-9, GS-15 with great service, product feedback, and sales upwards of $230 our trip was cut short by a very unprofessional verbal termination of contract by Mrs. Juanita Rosales.
Mrs. Rosales asked to speak with me, and said “security said I was cutting hair and I’m not suppose to be cutting hair, it was not apart of the contract of a short term vendor and I wasn’t charging them and that I need to turn in the tablet pack my things and go now!” I tried to explaining to Mrs. Rosales ( I wasn’t charging for haircuts and our contract was for things being sold) this is sometime part of our sales demonstration, to show how the products and tools work in action, and that we did it at the previous Exchange with no issues. Furious and shaking with a very aggressive tone she repeated…..”Get Your Things And Go, my manager Mrs. Graciela Tunon already told me to terminate your contract”, I asked her to calm down and why are you so upset, she said I’ve never had to terminate anyone, I said it’s okay I understand, at the time a female E-9 soldier was in the middle of her demonstration and was demanded to get out of the chair by Mrs. Rosales.
My team drove over 1400 miles/24 hours round trip with fuel and lodging cost well over $1400 to be terminated without warning knowing how far we traveled was very DISAPPOINTING.
Fort Bliss population has over 100,000 troops family members, and civilians who call Fort Bliss home, its hard to believe I was terminated for demonstrating on 2.5 people.
If someone could reach out to me regarding this matter it would be much appreciated.
Respectfully,
Ozell D. Graham
CEO
