Who struggles with waiting? 🙋🏼‍♀️ I do! Hate to admit but sometimes I catch myself scrolling instagram when waiting for a long stoplight. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Our kids struggle with waiting too. Guess what helps with teaching this skill? Choices! Give your learners options. We don't always "wait" the same way so give your students the autonomy to make their own appropriate decision!

TX Dyslexia Funding Allotment
TEA has published a two page document on the Dyslexia allotment to districts that our legislature approved last year. The reporting codes for these students are listed. There are three codes that indicate the services the student is receiving. Receiving Dyslexia services under special education or Section 504; “receiving instruction that meets applicable dyslexia program criteria” in the state Dyslexia Handbook; “permitted to use modifications in the classroom or accommodations in the administration of (statewide) assessments”. It appears that a student can only have one of these labels. This funding is for students identified as having dyslexia, or dysgraphia, but not dyscalculia.
Guidance on use of the funds is provided. Training for teachers; Dyslexia screening, progress monitoring, and evaluation tools; evidence-based dyslexia intervention materials and/or curriculum; TEA dyslexia intervention platform; Dyslexia identification training for evaluation personnel; evidence-based early intervention programs in reading; professional development in the science of teaching reading; Dyslexia therapists positions and/or stipends for Dyslexia therapists. A “district may use an amount not to exceed 20 percent of the allotment provided for a qualifying student to contract with a private provider to provide supplemental academic services.” (If this is 20% of the per student amount, this would not be much money. 20% of the total allotment to a district would not cover many students.) (A qualifying student may not be excused from school to receive supplemental academic services provided under this provision.)
